Hey Shanghai! How U doin'?

How 'bout that Bjork huh? Oh, I guess that's old news. You hear Maroon 5 is comin'? Yikes, also old news ... Racks opening, The Wall opening, hmmm. All old news. What's been happening lately?

Well the Bund is set to get a dose of Sugar! OMG! OMG! The corporate behemoth behind The Collection in Xintiandi announced last Wednesday at their Ladies Night that the Xintiandi hotspot will be expanding to a Bund location at 5 on the Bund. Event photographers are positively FROTHING at the prospect! Anticipate a DELUGE of party pictures of that opening, let me tell you. Congrats to the Solid folk behind Sugar for putting together what is proving to be a winning (read: lucrative) concept.

More news? LOgO bar is shutting down for renovations on March 30 until April 17. Apparently they are going to try to make more room for a dancefloor and a stage. Here's hoping they don't EFF it up. Wait a second!!! LOgO bar and Bar Rouge shut down for renovations? Zut alors! Anticipate a sharp rise in p*** ticket prices back to Paris, as all the displaced Frenchies scramble out of Shanghai. What would there be to stay for? Paul bakery?

You know what I've noticed lately? Wine is the new black. Wine bars that is. Enoteca has a new one on Taicang Lu, Vino Venue just opened up in Hongqiao, and YOUR SmartShangers is set to unveil a special wine deal package for Q5 members. Stay tuned. Self promotion is grand, init.

In other news, the new Yuyintang had a great weekend last weekend with the Hedgehog show. Anyways, the anticipated make-over was this: the concert area was expanded outwards where the front garden used to be, a cement wall was put up to enclose this new area, a bar was put in near the front gate entrance, and a window was installed behind the stage so people in the park out back can see the band. The result is that it's still a packed room, but there are other standing areas around allowing viewing access. Not bad. Their highlights for the new future include a CD release party by Banana Monkey, a PURE party, and a show by US metalcore band, Horse the Band. Don't drop the ball on those, punk rocker.

This weekend? Weekends start on Thursday so I dunno about YOU but I'm checking out The Suit tonight at C's. Hey, I'm as sick of C's as the next guy but I'm liking the BNS these days. Should be a good one. LOgO also has a good one on for tonight and you should get your partying done there while you can.

Friday is a big night this week (well, every week) with the triumphant return of Magic Garden at MAO. So if you like flashing lights and bleeps and bloops on the system head on down for that one. If you don't, take about 90 tabs of acid and you'll soon get into the spirit of things. Tracers, man! Tracers! The Wall has the Hennessy Artistry show with a bunch of whodafugisdat performers, Volar likes Easter, and Sugar, of course, is where to go to get photographed.

Saturday? I'm thinking Attica's got everyone beat this week with not one, not two but three parties. Including the Maroon 5 afterparty. Maroon 5 kinda make Justin Timberlake look like Sid Vicious, but the ladies like 'em, so fellas, ditch the show, head down to Attica, and cut out the middle man!

So that's it! Make it through an entire newsletter without mentioning The Shelter! Wait! Dammit... We'll they've got good stuff on too as always.... Scroll down for the details.

Peace out,

Da Admiral

Joke of the week

A man was visiting Spain and passed by a restaurant in Madrid after a bullfight. They were advertising that they served the balls of the bull who lost the bullfight. Intrigued, the man went inside, only to find that where was a six-week waiting list to get to eat the loser's balls. So he signed up and came back six weeks later. When he got his meal, there were two teeny, teeny balls on his plate. He called the waiter over to complain.

"I've waited six weeks for bull balls. What are these?"
"Sir," the waiter said, "the bull doesn't always lose."
