Add Us To Your Address Book* Poppy Day 2008 Info

Poppy Day (March 29th, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) is our annual spring celebration when we offer the public a 10%* discount and TPF members a 15%* discount on a huge inventory (thousands) of gorgeous California native plants. To name a few, we've got spring-flowering perennials such as Verbena lilacina 'De La Mina' and Penstemon palmeri with pale pink FRAGRANT flowers, a terrific selection of sages and California fuchsias. (*Please note: there is no discount on seed and 4" pots.)

As you browse the enormous assortment of natives, keep an eye out for our fresh shipment of glazed and unglazed pots in assorted shapes and sizes - a perfect accompaniment to the many plants you'll be bringing home!!

Be sure to plan your shopping accordingly so you can attend one or all of the free workshops:
11:00 a.m. - Butterflies of Southern California
Fred Heath, author of An Introduction to Southern California Butterflies, will give an illustrated presentation showing many of our local butterflies. You will discover where, when and how to find these beautiful creatures and learn about their habitats, food plants, life cycles, and behavior. Fred will answer questions such as how long do they live and what is the difference between a butterfly and a moth? He will sign copies of his beautiful and informative book, which is available in the TPF bookstore.
12:00 p.m. - All about Leaves
Lisa Novick, TPF Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator, will discuss and show leaf adaptations (why foliage is fuzzy or hairless, silvery or green, prickly or smooth, aromatic or scentless) of California native plants through hands-on activities and revealing science demonstrations. For adults and children.
1:00 p.m. - A Native Cutting Garden
Lili Singer, TPF Special Projects Coordinator, will share her knowledge of the wonderful native flowering plants that yield colorful, long-lasting and fragrant bouquets.

We're pleased to present the following vendors on Poppy Day:
Susan Wells - A silk artist with nature-inspired wearable and decorative art in exquisite colors and textures.
Kendra Page - An oil painter of mountainscapes and poppy fields. She exhibited at TPF last summer with other California landscape artists.
Wild Birds Unlimited, Woodland Hills - A seller of bird food, birdhouses and other fun stuff for backyard birders.

Visit our bookstore, where you'll find assorted horticulture, botany and nature books for adults and children; fresh local honey; deliciously fragrant incense and soaps and beautiful hand-thrown pottery by Marjorie Mannos. And don't miss the Foundation's demonstration gardens - in bloom with flowers in every color of the rainbow.
