Windows Tip: Sizing your event logs
By Mitch Tulloch, MVP
The Windows Event Logs are a good thing -- they're a primary source you
can mine when troubleshooting server problems or monitoring server
security. Because of this, it's a good idea to collect as much
information as possible in these logs in order to provide you with a
historical baseline of your server's operations to help you troubleshoot
difficult issues, and also to create an audit trail for security
purposes. But can you have too much of a good thing?

Anti-Virus Is Dead: The Advent of the Graylist Approach to Computer
Protection
http://cwflyris.computerworld.com/t/2963524/158421455/100921/0/
This whitepaper, written by Hurwitz & Associates Partner Robin Bloor,
discusses how viruses, trojans, and other forms of malware persist only
because anti-virus, the main defense against them, is terribly flawed.
But now a far more effective technique is proliferating. Instead of
trying to recognize malicious software, application whitelists focus on
authenticating valid software. This approach enables whitelists to block
a far wider variety of malicious software than AV products could ever
hope to stop.
