  Inside: This Week in Autos
Everyone likes a deal. All-you-can-eat buffets. Happy hour. Black Friday. And, of course, feeling that you paid less for a car than you could have. Now, getting discounts and rebates these days isn't too hard—the problem is that the most heavily discounted cars are the ones that people tend to want least. But then there are those cars that just simply represent a fantastic deal. As Jim Henry writes this week, cars such as the BMW 1 Series, Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Chevy Corvette, Mercedes C63 AMG and many more all offer drivers a terrific driving experience for thousands of dollars less than cars offering comparable performance. One car that didn't make our list but has still racked up some impressive numbers is the Ford Fiesta, which has been a big success in Europe and which the company is now preparing to roll out under the same name across the globe—a first for the company. Elsewhere, we test drove the luxurious and fuel-efficient Mercedes GL320 CDI SUV, admired an early Porsche design and looked at how Toyota's rapid expansion has led to an increase in quality control problems. Enjoy!

In the end, I suspect that Ford will be glad it did not sell Volvo. Having Lincoln as its only premium/luxury option makes a lot of Fordies nervous. And for good reason. closequote
