Hi Crafters,
With Easter just a week away, there's still time to get crafty for this holiday filled with the spring cuteness of bunnies and little chicks. (Can the weather just catch up and be warm already?)
Easter Eggs are always a fun project to do this time of year but I've included a couple of projects that go beyond traditional dyeing. We'll preview a new book, Decorating Eggs, that shows you how to really stylize your Easter with projects from using paper to using scrafitto, a scratching technique. I've also included a video link that shows you how to make your own natural egg dyes. Also, what's Easter without those cute marshmallow Peeps? Chronicle Books and Urban Outfitters are having a Peeps contest so details are all below!

Decorating Eggs Review
Easter's coming early this year, so I'm trying to plan ahead. Decorating Eggs, by Deborah Schneebeli-Morrell (try saying that in one breath!), is my new best friend. For the past few years, I've dyed my eggs in onion skins with leaves for decoration (check out this Instructable for a how-to), but this year I'm thinking to try something different. This book has a ton of great suggestions. Some are simple, kid-friendly egg decorating projects, like painting faces on them with acrylic and filling them with dirt to grow cress hair or making an egg "bird" mobile with origami paper. Others are a little more sophisticated, like scrafitto, or felted wool egg cozies (see above), latex resist, or even using engravings from books to make very fancy eggs indeed.
The how-to illustrations are charming and clear, and there's a good run-down on which type of egg is best for each project.
PEEPS® On Film Contest
Chronicle Books and Urban Outfitters have just announced a fun new contest called PEEPS® on Film. They're looking for creative folks to whip up a fun homemade video starring those ubiquitous (and super cute!) Easter treats, PEEPS®! Face Cloth Bunny & Chick
