On March 19th, people around the world will be taking to the streets to say "5 Years Too Many" to the invasion and occupation of the war in Iraq. Join GX to demand "No More Blood For Oil"!
WHY CHEVRON?
Chevron is a major war profiteer, as well as one of the biggest Bay Area polluters. Internationally, Chevron is driving the war and occupation in Iraq, refining over a million barrels of stolen Iraqi oil in Richmond a month, and actively lobbying for the privatization of Iraq's oil fields so that massive oil corporations can seize control of them. Locally, Chevron's planned refinery expansion, to likely refine Canadian tar sands, will increase pollution and cause asthma, cancer and rising death rates, both in Richmond and in surrounding communities. To download a fact sheet on Chevron, click here. Global Exchange is part of Direct Action to Stop the War (DASW), a group organized to amplify an anti-war message with actions aimed at the corporations profiting from the war. For more info on DASW, click here. WHEN?
On March 15th, there will be a reclaim-the-streets style rally, march and non-violent direct action at the Chevron refinery in Richmond. There will be opportunities for personal involvement, and Global Exchange will be joining West County Toxics Coalition, GreenAction, Communities for a Better Environment, Amazon Watch, Rainforest Action Network and other organizations. On March 19th, Global Exchange will organize one of the multiple actions at a San Francisco office of federal agencies, corporations with military contracts or contracts in Iraq, politicians who have failed to stop the war, and foreign embassies of countries linked to the war in Iraq. We'll see you in the streets on March 15th and 19th!
