Metro Moves Ahead

Recent news from European retail conglomerate Metro Group reaffirms the company's deep commitment to EPC RFID.

Metro plans to deploy RFID readers at 200 of its Real hypermarkets in Germany, bringing the total to 300.

Last year, the company installed RFID interrogators at 130 of its Cash & Carry wholesale stores in Germany, where 40 percent of all merchandise sold by Cash & Carry is currently supplied on tagged pallets. Now, Metro says, it is preparing to roll out RFID technology at its Cash & Carry locations in France.

Metro also announced that starting in mid-2008, suppliers participating in its RFID rollout will be able to log on to its Metro Link Web portal to see exactly when and where shipments of their goods have been received.

All these developments, along with the retailers' many other RFID projects, helps keep Metro on the leading edge of EPC RFID adoption, and ROI. Read the full story here.
