Etude Wines is dedicated to mastering the craft of winegrowing. In classical music, an etude is a composition with a technical focus that allows the musician to practice a particular technique. Similarly, Etude wines are the product of deliberate concentration on the instructive variables of the craft. In 2004 – they certainly did a masterful job with their Cabernet Sauvignon. Just rated 94 points by Robert Parker, he says this "classic, deep ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa offers aromas of tobacco leaf, cedar, black currants, tar, licorice, and espresso. Full-bodied, powerful, and opulent, it can be drunk now or cellared for 15 or more years." Very limited availability.

This Barbera from Piedmont is a wonderful value in Italian red wine. It stays true to the variety, with fresh, mouthwateringly plummy fruit. Low in tannin with bright acidity, it is the perfect accompaniment to pasta or pizza. Wine Spectator nailed this one with their review – "Very plummy and grapey on the nose, with hints of chocolate. Full-bodied, soft and succulent, with lots of flavor and a long, long finish. Delicious." Rated 90 points and for only $10.99, this one is a no brainer.
