How Great the Father's Love
Hi Raquelle,
Do you have a favorite book you like to read repeatedly? Or maybe a movie you watch over and over again? I just finished reading The Shack for the sixth or seventh time. It's one of the most compelling books I've ever read; each time, I discover a new insight.
The main character talks with Jesus about his death on the cross. Was it really Jesus' choice? Jesus' response was "Yes," and as he said it, he smiled. Wait a minute. How could he smile about that? It caught me by surprise and I had to re-read that section. Jesus smiled when he talked about the cross.
This book is fiction, so it's not a Biblical statement. Still, it made me think of the passage from Hebrews 12:2, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame..." Jesus took joy in knowing he provided a way out for all of mankind? That kind of love and compassion is far beyond my capacity to understand it.
I plan to watch The Passion of the Christ at least once before Easter. The brutality Jesus suffered is almost overwhelming. So is his love for us. I never want to take lightly His agony on my behalf. But this Easter, I want to focus on the smile of Jesus. The smile that says He chose to die for me, for you, for all of us. . . willingly. . . joyfully.

Finding the Gospel in Unexpected Films
by Paul Edwards
After having seen There Will Be Blood three times in packed theatres, there is no question it deserved its seven Oscar nominations—and perhaps should have received the Academy Award for best picture on Sunday night (No Country for Old Men triumphed, while Daniel Day-Lewis of Blood received the best actor award). But many evangelical Christians might disagree.

Convert from the Occult to the Gospel
by Anna Stewart
You can imagine the pitch: I want to write a series of books. The first one will cover exactly a year in the life of a pre-teen kid with supernatural powers and then follow him as he grows up. He's a sweet boy born into a hostile world where there's a nasty villain obsessed with murdering him. You see, it's really about good and evil, angels and devils, that kind of stuff. And, get this, the kid will be Jesus.
The "Dark Side" of Movies

To the average liberal, it's President Bush — the arrogant, war-hungry, oil-company-loving, go-it-alone cowboy — who has ruined America's reputation around the world.

With all due respect, this documentary features comments "right from the horse's mouth," as it includes comments from former Apollo astronauts including Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, Jim Lovell and Gene Cernan. It is fascinating to listen to these men who actually flew to the moon recall their experiences and the feelings they had during those momentous occasions.
The film is filled with images such as President Kennedy's initiative and comments during the early 1960s that men should attempt to go to the moon. As one astronaut put it, "I liked it because it was a simple speech. He wanted us to go to the moon and by the end of the decade." Although Kennedy would not live to see the goal accomplished, it happened in July 1969. Other images include the Civil Rights movement along with the assassinations of JFK, Robert Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is still a "wow" moment to see footage of Neil Armstrong taking his first step on the moon, with the now-famous quote, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." The film is filled with comments from the people who lived this adventure, great footage of the moon, and clips of the times in which all of these events transpired. Charlie Duke became a Christian as did at least one other astronaut, because the order of the universe they viewed from the mothership and lunar module convinced them of the reality of the creator. This documentary is filled with interesting trivia, such as the fact that each member of Apollo 11, the first group to go to the moon, were all born in the same year, 1930. This film includes some mild language, but it is an entertaining and wonderful story of who we were when man landed on the moon. We at Dove award our seal to this movie as a family-friendly slice of history.

The Final Inquiry - DVD
by Rocio Packard
"An excellent movie!!!! Very interesting and well put together. Our family especially loved how it is historically accurate and set in a time that is not cliche. It was nice to see some familiar faces in the script such as how Barabas played a small part in the film. All together it was a nice film to watch. I am sure it will find it's place in our home collection. "

Belle And The Beast - DVD
by Phyllis Anderson
"This is an excellent Christian romance movie. I received this DVD for Christmas and have watched it several times. The story is about a man (Eric Landry) who has lost his faith in God due to a tragic accident. Belle goes to work for Eric Landry, whom the townsfolk call "the beast", and Eric makes the work situation pretty difficult in the beginning for Belle, however Belle sticks with her committment and as a result the two become close and she is able to help Eric see the need for God in his life, but Eric helps Belle to see what she has been missing too~love! I would highly recommend this movie. It gets an A+ from me."
