Texas employers added 28,000 jobs in January, putting the state’s
annual job growth rate at 2.7 percent. January’s increase followed a revised gain of 21,400 jobs in December, according to statistics released Thursday by the Texas Workforce Commission.
The unemployment rate in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area jumped to 4.6 percent in January from 4.2 percent in December. It was 4.7 percent a year ago. Metro area figures are reported on a non-seasonally adjusted basis.
Statewide, the jobless rate inched up to 4.3 percent in January
from 4.2 percent in December on a seasonally adjusted basis.
That was still down compared to the 4.5 percent unemployment rate in January 2007.
The U.S seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9 percent.
