Dear Criss,
Hello to everyone -
We have been experiencing some very nice weather
this past week and I feel like Spring is on it's way. I
sure do love the warmer weather, especially when I'm
outside watching many baseball games - Yes, it's that
time of year. Not only is it baseball season but, my
daugther is in full swing of the Volleyball club season
too. By the way - I think it is always baseball and
volleyball season......!
Here at the studio we are preparing for our Designer
Walls III Workshop for the week of March 17th - we still
have one spot open. Along with preparing for classes,
I been creating some new finishes for the class that I
will be teaching at the Faux Effects Dallas location in
the month of May - look for more information on this
class soon - the class is scheduled for May 6th - 9th.
We also would like to say "thanks" to our many
customers that continue to keep us in business - we
have several specials that we are running during the
month of March - read on to find out all the details!
Also, in this newsletter - I'm sharing some of my
favorite recipes - one for English Toffee Bars (these
will put a pound or two on you - they did me!) and one
for your walls. Now I would suggest that you bake the
Toffee Bars first, work on your creative project and
then you will have a great treat when you are finished.
Enjoy them both.....
Creatively Yours,
Jennifer R Ferguson

English Toffee & Fergie's Metallic Crackled Walls
Okay - these Toffee bars are to die for!!!
My husband has forbid me for making any more
this year - between the Toffee bars and the
cruise - we both gained a few extra pounds -
now, he has taken
all them off, but me on the other hand.....well,
I still have a few more to go.
English Toffee Bars:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup pecan pieces
- Toffee Topping (recipe follows)
- 1 cup Guirards Milk Chocolate Chips
Heat over to 350 degrees. In larger mixer bowl
combine flour, brown sugar and butter. Mix
until fine crumbs form. (A few large crumbs
may remain.)
Press into ungreased rectangular pan, 13x9x2
inches. Sprinkle with pecan pieces. Set
aside.
Prepare Toffee Topping. Drizzle evenly over
pecans and crust in pan. Bake 20 to 22
minutes or
until topping is bubbly and golden. Remove from
oven. Immediately sprinkle wiht chocolate
chips (we
throw them into the Toffee so they sink down)
cool
completely and cut into bars.
Toffee Topping:
In small saucepan combine 1 cup butter and 1 cup
packed brown sugar. Stir constantly over medium
heat until boiling. Boil and stir 30
seconds; remove from heat and use
immediately. Enjoy and don't worry about the
extra pounds you will gain - plan to work
them off creating a new finish!
There is nothing better than a great finish
recipe (well maybe the Toffee bars) - so here
is one of my all time favorites and great
seller - wonderful for the over-the-top
powder room.
Fergie's Metallic Crackled Walls:
Products: AquaBond Off-White, AquaSize,
AquaCrackle Clear, AquaColor Metallic Bronze,
AquaColor Dark Brown, AquaCreme, SoSlow
(optional)
Tools: Stencil Brush, Roller, Chip
Brushes, Plastic Bags, Soft Rags, Sinclair
Swirls #535
- Base coat surface with AquaBond Off-White
(two coats) and allow to dry.
- Using the Sinclair Swirls stencil -
randomly scatter the designs on the surface,
creating an all-over look.
Stencil the different design options using
AquaColor
Metallic Bronze mixed with a little AquaCreme
for
transparency.
- Apply AquaSize to the complete surface
area using a roller and trying to create
even coverage.
Allow size to dry to a firm tack and apply
crackle
within 4 hours.
- Apply AquaCrackle Clear to the surface
using a plastic bag - bag onto the surface for an
un-directional crackle appearance. Continue
to apply crackle to surface area with bag for
100%
coverage - allow to dry.
- Create a glaze with AquaCreme and
AquaColors - Metallic Bronze and Dark Brown -
recipe: 1 cup of AquaCreme to 1 tbl of
Metallic Bronze and 1 tsp of Dark Brown.
- Apply glaze mixture to surface using a
chip brush, working it into the texture.
Remove/soften
the glaze using a soft rag in a circular motion,
leaving as much glaze behind as possible to
enhance the crackle
finish.
