I have trouble deciding on colors to use. Is there a neutral sofa color that will look good with most colors?
S. S. Hiram, GA

If you enjoy changing the décor in your living room every so often, neutral upholstered furniture is the best way to go. Try furniture in shades of brown, beige, taupe or eggshell to create a neutral foundation for the room. This will allow you to refresh the look of any room with accents, like a rug or fresh flowers, that can easily add a burst of color. Another thing to keep in mind is choosing transitional pieces. The simpler the design, the easier it will be to complement other decorating elements.

Tip of the Month:

Once you finally find that perfect table or chest you have been looking for, proper wood care will ensure your prized pieces continue to look as beautiful as the day you bought them. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Use a clean, soft cloth with a small amount of furniture polish on it, if desired, to dust.
  • Use coasters, backing or placemats between the wood surface and the items on them to prevent scratching or warping.
  • Avoid exposing wood furniture to strong sunlight or direct heat sources, which can cause damage.
  • Your furniture should sit level on the floor to avoid undue stress or damage to doors and drawers.
