In 2005 alone, the highly contagious respiratory disease, tuberculosis, claimed the lives of approximately 1.6 million people. Now, new findings show the incidence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is higher than ever before. According to the Director of the World Health Organization's Stop TB Department, the international community must immediately launch an aggressive "frontal assault" on the contagious respiratory disease or "we will lose this battle." In other health updates, a sexual and reproductive health think tank is saying the provision of voluntary contraceptive services to women undergoing treatment for HIV/AIDS is essential to an effective global campaign against the disease.
