An exclusive peek at Canada Blooms the Toronto Flower & Garden Festival
March 12 – 16, 2008

Walk into the giant recycling box and enter a Pop Art world of collages, sculptures and cartoon posters inspired by Andy Warhol, Frank Stella and Alexander Calder. The Recycling Power garden is where you’ll find discarded cell phones and batteries transformed into art that will inspire you to recycle. Sponsored by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) and designed by Shawn Gallaugher, the garden guides you through the easy steps of recycling. It also doubles as a collection depot, so bring along your used rechargeable batteries and cell phones and help create a more sustainable environment!

The VIA Rail Garden Route Lounge showcases seven of the 15 beautiful gardens and 26 award-winning Communities in Bloom towns and cities along the VIA Rail Garden Route, a train journey that stretches across Canada from Halifax to Victoria. Visit the VIA Rail Garden Route Lounge (booth 100), located in the northwest corner of the Marketplace, and enter your ballot for a chance to win a train trip for two to the garden of your choice!

Here’s a tip from the experts at The Home Depot. Using slow-release fertilizers, such as Eco Options Perfectly Natural Tree and Shrub Fertilizer, delivers nutrients where trees and shrubs need them most – at the roots. And because the plant food is released slowly over time, you apply it only twice a year – in the spring and early fall. For more tips like this one, visit The Home Depot Outdoor Living Central on the 800 Level.

Knock-knock. Who’s there? Joe (Fresh) Mimran, Rex Harrington, Brian Gluckstein, Shinan Govani and a host of other celebrities who will be dressing up 12 exciting, front-door containers at the Miracle-Gro Do Up the Doorstep Challenge. You’ll find lots of great ideas to inspire your own doorstep design, whether you’re welcoming visitors across the threshold at the cottage, in the city or down on the farm. Be sure to cast your vote at the show for your favourite container, too. The winning celebrity designer garners a donation to his or her favourite charity.

Canada Blooms was founded by the Garden Club of Toronto and Landscape Ontario
