Mythbusters: The Final Inquiry
Hi Raquelle,
I was at a friend’s home the other night and saw an episode of “Mythbusters.” It’s a TV show whose cast investigates popular urban myths. Using the latest technology, science and ingenuity, they show what’s real and what’s fiction.
For example, they discovered that shooting a bullet into a car’s gasoline tank (a favorite movie stunt) does not cause the car to explode. On the other hand, shoving a potato or banana into a car’s exhaust pipe will cause the car to stall.
The Final Inquiry, new this week on DVD, is the story of a “mythbuster” from the Roman Empire. Three years after Jesus’ resurrection, Emperor Tiberius (Max von Sydow) hears rumors about a prophet who rose from the dead. People are rebelling against the Empire, and he needs to control the unrest.
He sends general Tito Valerio Tauro to discredit the rumors and squelch this new cult. What begins as a quest to dispel wild rumors becomes a search for truth, the ultimate truth.
Every day we encounter people who believe the truth is just a wild rumor. What do you say when people ask you about Jesus? Did he really live and die and rise from the dead? If he did, what difference does it make?
This film could be a great discussion starter and help us all remember again the supreme sacrifice of Christ and the glory of His resurrection.

The Final Inquiry - DVD
One truth could destroy an empire
Academy Award-winner F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV, The Punisher) and Oscar nominee Max von Sydow (The Minority Report) star in a thrilling journey into the ancient Holy Land where a secret new faith will enthrall an empire. The Final Inquiry, directed by Los Angeles Italian Film Awards-winning director Guilio Base (Audience Award, 1999, La Bomba), also stars Daniele Liotti (Mad Love) and Mónica Cruz (Last Hour).
The Final Inquiry begins three years after the Crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. Rumors that he is a prophet who has risen from the dead are inciting the people to rebel against the Roman Empire. In an effort to control the unrest, the Roman Emperor recruits a formerly exiled, clever and disenchanted investigator to disprove the story. As the search is aided by a beautiful, young Israeli woman and hampered by Governor Pontius Pilate, a proud, honest Roman hero is drawn deeply into a deep realm of love, honor and spiritual understanding.
After a harrowing but victorious campaign against the barbarian hordes, Rome's greatest general Tito Valerio Tauro receives a special assignment from the emperor: travel in secret to the city of Jerusalem to investigate the recent death and possible resurrection of a crucified man. Unwilling to believe the alleged miracle, Tauros sets out to discredit the rumors and put an end to the spreading cult of Jesus. But in a land touched by faith and hope, the secrets he uncovers and the people he meets may prove strong enough to crack even the hardest heart and bring truth to an empire.

Featured Filmmaker: Dolph Lundgren
by Angela Walker
Actor, producer, director and writer Dolph Lundgren is probably best known for his role opposite Sylvester Stallone in "Rocky IV." Since then, he's been part of over 30 films and videos. Most of his roles have been in action films, so playing a barbarian warrior in The Final Inquiry wasn't too much of a stretch for him.
CC.com: What attracted you to this role?
Dolph: I like the subject matter and think it is a very interesting story. It’s about a Roman tribune sent out to Palestine to investigate the resurrection of some mysterious guy 2000 years ago.
The emperor is dying, and he wants to find out if there is any truth to eternal life, so he sends out this guy to investigate. The investigator takes a practical look at it, and I have an interesting role as kind of his sidekick/bodyguard to this Roman fellow.

Branding Faith - Impacting the Culture
by Angela Walker
I grew up in Texas, where the ranches are big and beef is what's for dinner. Branding meant stamping a hot firebrand onto the hindquarters of an animal to identify it as one of yours. Each rancher developed a unique brand that made his cattle stand out from others, and when herds got mixed, all a cowboy had to do was look for the brand. That's how he knew to cut out the cattle that belonged to his boss.
In recent years, a brand has come to mean what separates you from your competitors. How do you know those are Nike shoes? Look for the swoosh. Izod? The alligator. Polo? The pony. We no longer wear clothes, we wear brands. We don't just have a hamburger; we eat a Big Mac.

Dove Review:
This story left just about everyone who screened it with a lump in our throats. It is an emotional ride which leads to a fantastic conclusion. If you follow the journey from beginning to end, you won't be disappointed with how it is wrapped up.
The premise of the story is the birth of a child prodigy, whose obvious musical talents begin to shine to all those around him, including those who would help him and one who would exploit him for gain. Separated from his parents at birth, due to some circumstantial situations which are explained in the film, the young boy at age twelve desperately wants to find his mother and father. He knows in his heart they are still alive. Freddie Highmore gives an outstanding performance, as do Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Robin Williams is also quite good as Wizard, the Fagin of his day, as there are a couple of similarities between this story and "Oliver Twist". There is an orphanage in this story and young August is believed to be an orphan. Some of the children haze young August a bit. There are a few minor content issues listed below. This story has great cinematography, music and performances and the nice ending to boot. We happily award it our Dove Family-Approved Seal.
