Hey Shanghai!

How U doing? If you're name is MINT, then "not too well" is your answer! First Pirates, then 4 Live, then dkd and now MINT, the latest Shanghai staple to close in series of shocking ... uh ... closings. Where do the House kids go now?? Hmm well a couple of new ones have opened up -- The Cool Docks on the Bund, The Cut, and The Wall -- but the verdict is still out as to whether they can pack 'em in like Mint used to! Especially those last two, which are a bit of a ride from the city center. But thanks to the staff and managers of Mint! Sad to see a great venue go! Best of luck in the future...

We've heard rumbling that Mural has had a bit of a management shake-up and are looking to be more Mint-esque, so Mint fans keep your eye on Mural in the next couple weeks to see if they can provide what you're looking for. Already they've got "From Dub Till Dawn" a popular Dub, Soulful and Deep House night on Thursday. Another option for displaced fans of Mint? We've heard MAO is a great place to be these days, and if you haven't been since their glitzy opening last year, check 'em out again to see what they're up too.

So of course by now you've heard that Shanghai is hosting a bunch of big international acts next month including the Bjork (interviewed by YOUR SmartShanghai), Maroon 5 (shunned by YOUR SmartShanghai), and Incubus, but clubbers also watch out for Infected Mushroom on March 9 at GVIP, and keep your ears open for a rumoured PVD show and a Tiesto show (at M2 in early April). It's no secret that the "other" Paul -- Paul Van Dyke that is -- dropped the ball on his last performance in Shanghai. It will be interesting to see whether he can put something together that is up to fan's expectations, if in fact, he does actually decide to make the effort to play in Shanghers! That's a big IF. Don't like your DJs international? Like 'em national? Keep your eyes and hears open for the return of Antidote, bringing in some talent from Beijing. But enough of that! Let's talk about THIS weekend. Big ones on Friday are "Get in the Van" a rock show featuring two venues, four beer buses and five acts. Bus tickets have SOLD OUT, so you'll have to catch up with the crowds at the venues - Live Bar and LOgO. Clubbers, Attica's got Paul Deighton, California Club has a new party "Renaissance," Volar goes Extreme, and some stand-up comedy is goin' down at O'Malley's. On Saturday, M2 has the party with DJ Lucca (Q5 deals a plenty), Attica welcomes back resident Jon White, LOgO has Digital Love and Racks has your Hip Hop party. And of course, The Shelter has The Shelter doing Shelter stuff and it will be packed as always!

But don't take my word for it! Scroll down to the listings and see for yourself. By giving money to child beggars you're supporting child labour and trafficking! DON'T do it.

Help control the pet population by having your pets spayed or neutered! We heard that Drew Carey was now hosting "The Price is Right." Blasphemy!

Respect,

Da Admiral

Joke of the week

Three nuns decided to quit so they went to the Mother Superior and said, "We don't want to be nuns anymore, how do we quit?" The mother told them, "Do something unholy and come back here in 24 hours." So the nuns left thinking, "What can I do that's unholy?"

The next day they went to the mother one at a time. The mother said tot he first nun, "What unholy thing did you do?" and the nun said "I stole a kid's bike." The mother said, "I guess that will do, go drink some holy water. When the nun did she wasn't a nun anymore and she left the convent.

The second nun walked in and the mother said, "What unholy thing did you do?" The nun replied, "I slept with a married man!" The mother said, "Well, that's sinning. Go drink holy water."

The third nun walked in and the mother said, "What unholy thing did you do?" The third nun said proudly, "I pissed in the holy water!"
