Greetings!
The third Monday in February is
officially President's Day. When I was in school we celebrated Abraham
Lincoln's birthday on February 12, always with recitations of the Gettysburg
Address, and George Washington's birthday on February 22, usually with
cherry desserts to commemorate the "I cannot tell a lie" legend.
In honor of these two great
leaders, here are a two of the many books documenting their accomplishments and
debating their legacy:
HIS EXCELLENCY: George Washington
by Joseph J. Ellis (Vintage, pb.
15.00)
A
landmark biography and on everyone's best list.
PRESIDENT LINCOLN: The Duty of a
Statesman
by William Lee Miller (Knopf, hd.
30.00)
From
the author of LINCOLN'S VIRTUES, an examination of the Lincoln presidency.
We now have helium balloons for sale at the main store. Mylar and latex. In
pretty colors.
The New York Times calls THE APPEAL John Grisham's "savviest book in
