Indiana University Violin Virtuosi

This week on A Prairie Home Companion, we'll visit the Indiana University Auditorium in beautiful Bloomington (a.k.a. Tree City) for a rapid radio immersion into the many young talents in and around
the distinguished Jacobs School of Music. With special guests, the Indiana University Violin Virtuosi, a unique collection of fifteen gifted violinists between the ages of 11 and 18, performing as
soloists and a violin ensemble, and directed by Professor Mimi Zweig. We'll also have baritone Aleksey Bogdanov, violinist Esther Kim, Pianist Ignasi Cambra, and a colorful student pit orchestra
ready to bravely play, while gummi bears and soda pop are spilled steadily onto their heads, from the seats high above. Also with us, the Royal Academy of Radio Actors: Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and Fred Newman, The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band with old soft shoe Andy Stein, and The News From Lake Wobegon. Join us this

Every evening, i get into the peace of my car and drive for two hours and listen for the Praire Home Companion. I think you once hinted that, maybe, Dolly Parton would be on the show. I just don't wanna miss anything.

We've been angling to get Dolly on the show ever since forever. Chet Atkins was a big admirer of hers and we tried to get her through him, and Stevie Beck the Queen of the Autoharp, who is a Dolly fan, tried, and someday we will welcome her to the show. She can sing anything she wants to sing and
I'll write her a part in a Guy Noir script. We'll even give her a dressing room with a mirror and little light bulbs around it.

Listened to the show Saturday and it was not bad. I missed bits of it here and there, unfortunately, with that cold spell coming up on us out of nowhere. Lord, that was something. I had to run out for wood about twice as often as usual, and the kids wanted sweaters and then blankets for the big
movie and popcorn night they'd planned all week. I'd made some chili in the afternoon so it was that and cornbread for dinner, and it was so good we ate it all up. So, instead of sitting back and shivering, I busied myself in the kitchen...

Only February and already it's a fine political year here in our great roisterous republic with a carnival cast of colorful drones and smiley eminences huffing and puffing across the field of battle and tumbling off the cliff, leaving two serious contenders in each party. Thanks to all the
candidates for their nerve. Hurray for democracy, which has been so generous to keyboard wretches like me. And to all the soreheads who say the presidential campaign season is too long, a big Bronx cheer (pppppppppppppp). Not when it's this interesting, it isn't.
