In 1827, Berlioz, a young French music student, turned his own "lovesick despair" into one of the most revolutionary-and exciting-pieces of music ever written, the "Symphonie Fantastique." Ingram Marshall's lyric and beautiful "Kingdom Come"-for electronic tape and orchestra- makes use of the composer's recordings of Serbian and Croatian chants in a moving elegy for the victims of that war. Also on this program: Prokofiev's lyric "First Violin Concerto," performed by Young Artist Competition winner Pasha Tseitlin. Concerts are preceded by a free lecture one hour prior to their start time.
