National Book Critics Circle Good Reads Discussion
Before the
Internet, book recommendations were passed by word-of-mouth or through book
reviews in magazines and newspapers. Nowadays book websites and blogs abound.
But with all this connectivity, the National Book Critics Circle
(bookcritics.org) felt the need to get back to the roots of recommendations by
asking award-winning novelists, historians, poets, critics, and biographers
which books topped their lists. After polling more than 600 writers, they've
come up with the NBCC's Good Reads - Winter List, a list of the most recommended
titles among writers and critics today.
Please join novelist Charles Johnson,
Jonathan Raban, Seattle Weekly editor Brian Miller, and Seattle Times Book
editor Mary Ann Gwinn for a discussion on good books, good reviews, and how much
difference a recommendation -- be it from a critic or a friend -- makes.
Monday, February 18 at 7pm Refreshments will be served.
