NBC has published an African American Studies collection just in time for Black History Month. The NBC News Video Archive on Demand brings your students the story of the African American experience from the Colonial Era to the present day. --Teachers Matter Blog--
Last week our Chairman and CEO, Edward Fields, asked for topic suggestions to discuss in his new blog - Teachers Matter. The blog went live last night with an answer to the first question - "What will we have to do differently to prepare, recruit, and retain educators for the 21st century? Who will these teachers be?" Take a look at the response and keep checking back for more responses in the coming weeks.

As of last month's update we eclipsed yet another milestone. We now have over 3,500 free lesson plans available! You can access them all by browsing by subject and grade level, searching, or accessing our seasonal selections.

We have about ten lesson plans and ideas for President's Day which occurs on the 3rd Monday of the month - February 18th this year.
--Request for Mardi Gras Lesson Plans and Ideas--
Mardi Gras came early this year (today), so we weren't able to get our resources out in time. Are you doing anything with your class for Mardi Gras? If you have any ideas to share for use by our subscribers next year, we'd love to have them! You can submit them to our site here. Our Mardi Gras content can be found here.

The Teacher's Corner has a collection of projects, word searches, crosswords, worksheets, links to other Black History Month resources, and more.
The Federal Resources for Educational Excellence website has an extensive set of 65 resources for Black History Month.
You can find teachers' guides and more at the Black History Month website run by the University of Illinois Extension.
Smithsonian Education has a helpful Black History Month resource site with a collection of teaching resources.
Here's a collection of lesson plans for Black History Month at AtoZ.
Black History Month takes place in October in Britain, but those of you in the United States may find many of the Black History Month resources at this British website to be helpful in your classroom (check out the large links section too).

TeachNet.com has a lot of great, simple ideas for Valentine's Day activities, crafts, recipes, a book list, poems, and more.
This site has some Valentine's Day lesson plans, heart information, and links.
Apples4TheTeacher.com has another large collection of fun Valentine's Day resources, and all of them are located right on their site.
There are Valentine's Day crafts and more at KidsDomain.
The Georgia Department of Education has compiled a helpful collection of links to various Valentine's Day resources including songs and poems, crafts, Valentine trivia, Valentine parties, printables, clip art, and more.

The American Experience at PBS has a great resource exploring the lives and careers of all the American Presidents.
This site has President's Day lesson plans, clip art, crafts, activities, informational pages, and more.

MardiGrasDay.com has an informational section about Mardi Gras on the page below, and on the left side menu they have a few lesson plans as well. Explore the site for all kinds of Mardi Gras resources.
ClassBrain has a collection of links to 10 Mardi Gras websites (mostly informational sites).
Crayola has a resource page with craft and art ideas for Mardi Gras.
Here's an art lesson for creating Mardi Gras masks.
Here's a thorough history lesson plan for Mardi Gras that includes a recipe for King Cake (4th - 5th grade).
