I am in need of a home office computer workspace, however I need more desktop space than the usual computer desk will supply. What would you suggest?
G.H. Saint Stephen, SC

Though you certainly should look for plenty of surface space, appearances can be deceiving; and some pieces have more to them than you see up front. For example, many of Havertys' home office desks have mouse pads that slide out from under the keyboard tray, built-in power directors for your electronic devices, and hidden pull-out trays that offer additional desktop space for a writing pad, reading materials, or just about anything else that would otherwise clutter your desktop. In the long run, you will get maximum use from a home office desk that has many changeable options for both storage and surface space.

Keep an organized workspace

The key to a beautiful home office area may actually lie in what you can't see - wires, cords, and other unsightly electronic components. Today's home offices are specially designed with a number of conveniences that will keep your office space accessible and organized. Below are a few features to look for when choosing a home office:

  • Cord management: Cord management generally consists of built-in openings in the furniture that guide wires and cords from your electronics to the power source. Some pieces also use sliding back panels for cord management.
  • Media bays: Media bays serve as docking stations for a wide variety of personal electronic components, such as mp3 players, cell phones, and other gadgets.
  • Rear access to CPU: Some desks are built with hidden doors on the back to allow for rear access so that you can get to your computer, modem, printer, etc. without having to pull them out completely.
  • Power director: A power director provides organized outlets for almost any type of electronic component, so all your cords meet at one place. Many have a surge protection warranty that protects your electronics in the event of a blown fuse.
