TORSTEIN HORGMO WINS BIG AIR AT WINTER X!
Torstein.
Last weekend Torstein Horgmo earned his very first X Games medal by taking the Gold in Snowboarding Big Air! (Riding a DC board, mind you). Torstein was one of just four riders invited to compete on the massive ramp, making its first appearance at this year’s Winter X Games 12 in Aspen, CO.

It all went down on Saturday night. In the first round Torstein faced his DC teammate Travis Rice, who’s always deadly in Big Air. Travis threw his double backside rodeo 1080, a trick he’s relied on recently over the Big Air gap (since when did a double rodeo-anything become a go-to trick?). Torstein threw a switch backside 1260, absolutely stomping the landing. The judging decision was left to the cell phone texting-ready viewers and Todd Richards—Torstein earned the round one win and progressed to the finals.
Torstein loves Gold! Gold DC hat on his head, Gold sunnies on his face, and a Gold medal around his neck.
In the finals Torstein once again dropped in switch, this time making a backside 1080. After Pearce, his opponent in the finals, sketched out on both his go’s, Torstein was named the Gold medal winner.

A HUGE congratulation to Torstein on the win! Check out more Winter X coverage, including video and lots of photos, on TransWorld SNOWboarding’s site… go here.
MILLSAPS BATTLES THROUGH THE SAN FRAN. MUD AND TAKES 3RD
It was a wet, rainy and all-together muddy race last weekend as the AMA Supercross Series hit AT&T Park in San Francisco, but DC’s Davi Millsaps charged through all the ugly conditions to take 3rd place. After a few incidents of bad luck for the first three races this season, this was Davi’s first 2008 podium.
Davi, knee deep in it.
When we say it was wet in San Francisco last weekend, we mean it… track builders kept the course covered until about 4 PM, but that didn’t really help as there were soon knee deep muddy ruts everywhere. Davi’s size and strength seemed to help him stay fast in the wet conditions… he charged in his heat race to qualify 2nd. In the Main Event Davi came out of the gates well, near the front of the pack. He then handled the first triple (basically jumping over Ferry) to take over 3rd place. On lap 5 Davi slipped into 2nd place, but 7 muddy laps later Davi went down. He was able to remount his Honda and fend off the rest of the field to take the final podium spot.
Davi on the podium.
With 2 of the 4 races so far this season happening in wet soggy conditions, Davi and the rest of the field are undoubtedly looking forward to the dry forecast as the AMA SX Series continues in Anaheim, CA. Go here for the TV schedule or here of the full series schedule.
199 LIVES, PASTRANA’S NEW FILM, WINS AT X-DANCE
Last weekend 199 Lives, the new documentary about Travis Pastrana, took Best Action Sport Film at the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival held in Salt Lake City. X-Dance could be called a sister show to the notorious Sundance Film Festival, with X-Dance focusing primarily on action sports.
Created by Gregg Godfrey, the same man who makes those crazy Nitro Circus movies, 199 Lives documents the relatively short and very full life of Travis. Amidst all the Gold medals, double backflips, world records, and international fame the 22 year old has endured plenty of hard times. The film covers it all. Reports from the screening are that the film is emotional at times… a few tears were even seen at the screening according to Nate Christenson, DC’s staff photographer.

199 Lives will hit theaters in the US sometime this spring, with the DVD hitting shelves shortly afterwards. Go here to watch the trailer. There’s also a good article about Travis with a sidebar about the movie on ESPN’s site… go here for that. Congrats to Travis on the win, and stay tuned to this Newsclip for more about 199 Lives.

DC’S BALLROOM BLITZ GOES DOWN AT ASR
Luis Tolentino: short in stature, big in pop. Sam Olson photo.

Last weekend at the ASR trade show DC helped put on the Ballroom Blitz high ollie contest, just one part of the massive Grind for Life spot upstairs. The whole thing was pretty awesome, with about 20 skaters battling to pop the highest as the ollie bar went higher and higher. Luis Tolentino from Shut Skate in NYC cleared the 38 3/8” bar to take the win and the $500 that went with it. DC threw down an additional $500 for Grind for Life, an organization that helps people with cancer.

Thank you to everyone who came through and helped make the whole event such a success. For more about Grind for Life and all the great things it does, visit www.grindforlife.org.

BOHAN BAGS THE RIDE BMX COVER

Check out the cover of this month’s Ride BMX Magazine and you’ll see DC’s Corey Bohan getting in touch with Mother Nature. It’s from a special session that took Corey and the boys deep into the wilderness to hit some custom built ramps and obstacles. See more photos from the unique session and get the full story on how it all went down deeper inside the issue.

The March 2008 issue of Ride BMX Magazine is hitting shops now.

D-OH! A DEER ROBS WIN FROM PASTRANA AT SNO*DRIFT RALLY

Sno*Drift, the annual kick-off to the Rally America National Championship, is a race that’s usually riddled with danger—snow, icy roads, low visibility—making it one of the year’s most difficult courses. But at last weekend’s Sno*Drift Travis Pastrana encountered another obstacle: a deer. Travis was leading the rally and was looking good to win it when he collided with a deer that was crossing the road! The wreck rendered Travis’ car un-drivable and resulted in a DNF. Check out the shocking in-car video from the unusual wreck on YouTube here, or more photos from the event here.
