Wine House Cocktail Party, November 2006

Dear Criss,

Wine House is more exciting than a Twenty20 cricket match! It is our first week of full trading for 2008 with the bottle shop open Monday to Friday 11am to 7pm and on Saturday 11am to 5pm, remember this Saturday we have the Hill of Grace & Grange tasting! Also remember Valentines day is coming up and a unique dinner menu at the
Brasserie has been planned for you. All this and Australia's best wine range on our web site.

We hope you enjoy,

From the team at Wine House

This week at Wine House -

Bass Phillip 21 Pinot Noir 2006!
Very limited wine.

The result of a painfully small cropping year with the celebration of the 21st Bass Phillip vintage Phillip Jones has decided to release a single wine from the 2006 year. The efforts for the Reserve, Premium, Estate and Village level of the Bass Phillip label has been combined to make a very, very limited and once off Bass Phillip 21 Pinot Noir.

This is a absolute "cracker" of a wine and with thanks to the blend of fruit it is also one of the best wines Bass Phillip has ever made.

$85.00 per bottle, no further discounts apply.

Brasserie - Valentines day!

Thursday 14th February, dinner 6pm - late.

Bookings open.

If you love your mum, dad, wife, husband or partner the Brasserie has a perfect way to show your appreciation and affection through food and wine. A unique menu has been planned for the occasion. Follow this link to see the dinner options as you choose a three course meal for $85 per person or a three course meal with matched wines for $135.

Call the Brasserie on 03 9698 8008 to arrange your evening or to enquire about function packages.

Old & Rare Wines - Unique wines.

Yes, we are again open Saturday 11am - 5pm and until 7pm Monday to Friday, and you are welcome to visit the store to browse and ask about our wines. Of course, as usual, you can shop on line from our vast range. Last week we featured a list of white wines to enjoy over summer, some still available at a special price, this week we show some reds, such as ...

El Gordo Durif 2005, Central Victoria, Vic.

Oz Clarke top wines of 2008!

Two weeks ago we started selling this "Petit Shiraz" as one of the best sub $15 reds we have seen. Last week we found out that famous UK wine journalist Oz Clarke rated this El Gordo Durif as one of the best wines of 2008 making it a must try for hearty red lovers.
$13.46 in a dozen | $14.95 per bottle

Chatsfield Shiraz 2002, Mount Barker, WA.

Great Shiraz!

With some wine prices recently rising Wine House is glad to have found a ripper range of small producers at bargain prices. The shiraz list excels with value and great great reds from Arakoon, Galli, Gallagher, and this WA gem from Chatsfield, currently also on special!
$22.10 per bottle | Was $26.95 per bottle

Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 2000, Barossa Valley, SA.

Big future ahead!

Demand for Penfolds back vintage wines is ever increasing. We are happy to put ourselves to the test in finding aged bottles of premium Penfolds wines like Grange, Magill Estate and Yattarna, as well as the great reds of Bin 28, Bin 407 and of course Bin 389.

$49.50 in a dozen | $55.00 per bottle

Clarendon Hills Hickinbotham Cabernet Sauvignon 1998, McLaren Vale, SA.

Wine worth talking about!

Clarendon Hills is one of the best wine producers in Australia. Subtle use of French oak with careful partition of grapes from old and rare vineyards, is it any wonder Wine House adore the wines of this very iconic and cult winery? Seriously good.

$63.00 in a dozen | $70.00 per bottle

Domain Philip Jones Pinot Noir 2004, Gippsland, Vic.
Pinot Noir.

The wines of Tomboy Hill, Bannockburn and Main Ridge might stand for another opinion but it is arguable that Philip Jones is Australia's greatest Pinot Noir producer with his terrific Gippsland grown Bass Phillip wines as well as his own Domain Phillip Jones. Pinot Heaven.

$26.96 in a dozen | $29.95 per bottle

Rockford Sparkling Black Shiraz 1996 Disgorged, Barossa Valley, SA.

Uniquely Australian.

Australian's greatest gift to the wine world, other than championing screw cap and alternative blending, is the sparkling red. With the humble snag on a BBQ or with roast pork crackling a bottle of the Primo, Mitchell, or Rockford sparkling red is perfect.
$130.00 per bottle

Purchase a Wine House dozen this week and receive

two bottles of each wine (12 bottles) featured for $593.03 (save $60.67).

Wine Trivia

Last week we asked...

Who is considered to be Australia's first Wine Doctor and where was he born and grow up?

With no correct answer to this question received we repeat it for a second week and add a clue...

He took part in a Mutiny, was found guilty for his part, and, after a period in the Northern Hemisphere, he introduced a grape to Australia that is still being used.

For your chance to win a $30 Lunch Special at the Brasserie, or a $30 voucher at Old & Rare Wines, email your correct answer to sales@winehouse.com.au.  Extra consideration is given to detailed answers where many correct replies are received in a short time period.
