What Is It With This Show?!??!? Lost Keeps Giving & Fans Keep Receiving Matt Hill, Senior Writer
I'm still obsessed with it. By the time last Thursday rolled around -- the
day that Season 4 premiered -- I and many of my co-workers, friends, and
family were referring to the day as "Lost Day." On "Lost Day," we spoke mainly of Lost, made sure not to call each others' houses in the evening (Lost is back, you heathen!), and we visited sites like thefuselage.com before airtime to brush up on the latest Lost theories and speculation... well, at least I did.
The day after? Just as bad. All of us, basking in the post-Lost glow like worshipers fresh from church, did more talking, more
theorizing, more speculating, more "Wow, did you see the part where..." "You know what I think it is?" "Man, Lost is still cool..."
We may as well be saying, "What a mighty God we serve!"
And yeah, it makes me a little uncomfortable-this obsessive, cult-like devotion to just a TV show...

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader HJ's Narnia Coverage Continues
From Pirates to Paradise, and Beyond
Regina Doman | 02/02/08 | Comment HereThe brave mouse challenges almost everything he meets to a duel: he is usually
the first, if ineffective, warrior into the breach; he is, in short,
the perfect mouse-adventurer for a children's tale of this sort:
difficult to take seriously, but part of the color and setting of the
story. Read more...
Third Film Could Be Make-or-break for Narnia Franchise
Andrew Townsend | 01/16/08 | Comment Here
We can hope that all seven Narnia books will be filmed. However,
sequels sometimes run out of steam at number three. If we consider the
success of Star Wars and Harry Potter films, the film producers have to
"get it right" if the audiences are going to keep coming back. Read more... Also be sure to check out the spiffy new pictures, trailer, widget and slideshow at the Prince Caspian page. Plus, Mark Sommer continues his great Narnia News coverage...

The Week in Movies

Over Her Dead Body (2008) When Spirits Descend
Elisabeth Leitch
Human stupidity may be a doozy. The universe may very well have one
wicked sense of humor. But when it comes to the uphill battle that is
life, Over Her Dead Body makes us at least ponder the idea that there may be more intentional hands at work as well.

Caramel (2008) The Sweetness and Pain of Life
Darrel Manson
On the most basic level, this is a women's movie. (I don't mean to
denigrate the film at all by that categorization.) There is also a
deeper meaning that both men and women could benefit from. The women of
Layal's salon are indeed a model.

4 months 3 weeks & 2 days (2008) Emotional Road to a Back Alley
Darrel Manson
The real power of this film is not in its treatment of abortion, but in
the focus on the characters and the predicaments they face because of
where they are and what they are doing. We have no idea where the roads
we choose to follow will lead us.

In DVDs, Music, Books, Comix, TV, & Games
Jacob Sahms | 01/29/08 | Movies, On DVD This is a morality tale that shares its
fair touches of play, and hard work. "Hi-ho-hi-ho, it's off to work we
go" may be the cry of these dwarves, I mean, geeks, but following the
principles of service and sacrifice should all be in a day's work for a
follower of Christ.
The Gameplan
Jacob Sahms | 01/29/08 | Movies, On DVD While the movie is about sports, and about
ballet, and will entertain the whole family, the sentiments shared and
the lessons learned are more meaningful than a throwaway night at the
cinema (or on the couch at home). Go ahead, rent it; you can't say no.
Lake Placid 2
Ed Travis | 01/29/08 | Movies, TV, On DVD Do yourselves a favor, skip this one and
watch one of two things: 1) a classic episode of Dukes of Hazzard, just
to get your John Schneider fix; or 2) Alligator, a fantastically
self-aware, entertaining, and well-aged monster movie in the same vein
as this waste of an evening.
Rarities
Jacob Sahms | 02/01/08 | Music Copeland's fans will enjoy the trip down
memory ***, with a twist. Copeland has always been good: this album
just let's them see the stops along the way.
Ultimate Grammy Collection: Classic Country
New To Me
Jacob Sahms | 01/30/08 | Music The "Classic Country" installment gives
music editor Jacob Sahms a tour down memory ***. It certainly wasn't
his favorite but it gives a "history" of country, and sets up the next
disc up, the "Contemporary Country" collection.
Joseph's Road To Recovery
Jacob Sahms | 01/28/08 | Music The instrumentation is amazing, and
surreal, and Thieves & Liars prove that they can really rock.
Seriously, if this is what Facedown Records' Dreamt Music will be all
about, then I'm all for it! Bring on the next artist, and let's get
rocking.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret
J. Alan Sharrer | 02/03/08 | Books Why is there a review in Hollywood Jesus
for a book that won the 2008 Caldecott Medal (best drawings in a
picture book for children)? It's a great question that deserves a great
answer.
She-Hulk Comes Into Her Own
Maurice Broaddus | 01/30/08 | Comix We're fascinated by the monster within,
from the Hulk to Mr. Hyde, as if speaking to our realization that we
need to come to terms with it. Unlike her cousin, the She-Hulk is not
the embodiment of her inner rage.
George of the Jungle (Cartoon)
Melinda Ledman | 01/29/08 | TV This cartoon, like all great films, simply
asks the question and sets the premise for discussion. Although I
wasn't exactly entertained by the show itself, I was most certainly
interested in what it had to say. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
JoeJoe | 01/29/08 | Games Uncharted takes us, willingly, into
familiar territory that we've experienced with other games... it just
does it with a bit more style and visual class that we can only see
from a next-gen console.
Devil May Cry 4
Stevo | 01/28/08 | Games O.K. so I know it's only January, but that
doesn't mean it's too early to start talking about the best of 2008.
Devil May Cry 4 will be one of the greatest of the year. The demo is
available now on the Playstation network, and Xbox live.
Burnout Paradise
Yo | 01/27/08 | Games Controversy surrounds Burnout Paradise and
the radical changes it's made to the franchise. This a bold, new vision
for the next-genration of Burnout racers. Have the changes wrecked this
popular franchise, or have they given it a bright, new future?
