Happy Valentine's Day!
OK, it's not quite here yet, but I am preparing! I will be holding a port tasting tomorrow night, and then a pink wine tasting shortly after that. I'll post all my notes for you to enjoy! I *adore* port and it goes perfectly with chocolate. Port is a fortified wine, and its smooth, rich flavors are delicious with Godiva, Lindt and all of those other chocolaty varieties.

My current favorite 'house port' is Otima, made by Warre. Port, just like any other wine style, comes in a plethora of flavors. Be sure to try a variety of types - tawny, ruby, vintage, LBV - to see which appeals to your taste buds the most!

Boston Wine Expo
I'm in Massachusetts so I imagine you know what I'll be doing this coming weekend. It involves a TV and some port and chocolate :) But NEXT weekend, February 8-10, there is a HUGE Expo going on in Boston. They have hundreds of wineries, cooking demonstrations, and much, much more. One ticket price lets you in to try more ports, Champagnes, Chateauneuf du Papes and other wines than you could possibly drink in one afternoon.

I find it best to set a target - "try all the New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs" and then work through those. It is a fantastic way to learn more about wine and, in many cases, to talk directly with the winemakers about their creations!

Let me know if you're going to be there!

Random Thoughts
I have always adored Pride & Prejudice (my full name is Elizabeth) so I am hooked on the PBS series on Jane Austen right now. I have a page up on the wines of the Regency period. I'll be adding more photos in shortly as I get them loaded up.

So, since a Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner is coming up at a historic 1820s restaurant, I'm getting myself a regency dress :) I'll be sure to put photos on the site, along with full details about the wines! If a man shows up as Mr. Darcy, I'll be all set :)

Planning ahead, be sure to check out the calendar for the 2008 Boston Wine Festival Dinners with amazing chef Daniel Bruce! Every dish he creates is distinct from any other in his past. See if you can get to two or three of his dinners, and taste for yourself how talented he is with wine pairings!
