Valentine's Day is the traditional holiday when the greatest number of people purchase flowers to communicate love and emotion. But too often, flower recipients don't have the basic flower care knowledge to get the most and longest enjoyment from their flowers. And if they are disappointed, they may be hesitant to purchase flowers again for themselves or for another gift or occasion.

With this in mind, the Flower Promotion Organization, for the third consecutive year, is mounting an integrated PR campaign that communicates the basic steps consumers can take to maximize their Valentine's Day flower experience.

Core to these efforts is the www.FlowrMD.com website, where all of the consumer care information is located. This same information will be conveyed to the consumer through a series of media press releases that are being distributed to national and local newspapers, a release that will be uplinked to  consumer-focused websites and broadcast media sites, and a Video News Release that will be uplinked to network and cable stations throughout the U.S. In addition, we've developed two customizable (retailers can easily add their store name, address, phone number and website information) consumer C&H tip sheets that retailers can use as a handout for your walk-in trade or include with deliveries to help the customer get the most enjoyment from their flowers.

Also on the FlowrMD.com website are links to the FPO-SAF Alliance flower wellness/home ecology behavioral research conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School  that promotes the emotional, psychological and well-being benefits of flowers, as well as simple ideas and recipes on how to incorporate flowers into the consumers' lives and lifestyles throughout the year. (see www.flowerpossibilities.com and www.flowerwellness.com)

Action Steps To Consider:
1. Retailers are urged to include at least one 10 gram packet of commercial flower food with every bouquet or arrangement.
2. Customize the Consumer Tip Sheets with your store information and provide to all of your customers.
3. Post flower C&H information on your website (or link to the www.FlowrMD.com website).
4. Communicate flower C&H information in your e-newsletter prior to Valentine's Day.
5. Use the information in the attached press releases as a guide or cut and paste the C&H information onto your own letterhead and submit it to your local newspaper, radio station or TV station as a 'public service'.

We firmly believe that an informed consumer can enhance their enjoyment experience of their Valentine's Day flowers. And if they have a good experience, this will foster increased year round purchases and consumption for every day enjoyment and as gifts and for occasions. We encourage you to join us in spreading the positive messages flowers convey and to help the consumer have the best experience possible this Valentine's Day by using the FPO's FlowrMD campaign in your own marketing and customer communications.
