ANDROID GAME TURNS LINUX PHONES INTO PAINTBALL GUNS
A new game for Google's Linux-based Android platform uses WiFi, GPS, and
phone-camera technology, along with Google maps, to create a
first-person shooter game you can play "anytime, anywhere -- against

LOW-COST USB SENSORS IMPROVE ACCURACY
Phidgets has expanded its family of low-cost, Linux-friendly,
USB-connected sensing and control modules for hobbyists and
experimenters. Newly shipping Phidget modules include an "1123"
precision voltage sensor and "1124" precision temperature sensor, both
claimed to up precision over older models.

LINUX WIFI ARRAY CERTIFIED FIPS 140-2
A provider of Linux-based WiFi arrays announced certification by the
National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST). The cyptographic
module in Xirrus's 802.11a/b/g-compliant "WiFi Arrays" has received
Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 validation, says
the company, opening the door

LINUX NETWORK-ENABLES SOHO STORAGE APPLIANCE
Data Robotics has started shipping a Linux-based companion device that
network-enables its Drobo "storage robot" appliance. Additionally, the
company announced a $2,000 bounty for a port of its "Dashboard" Drobo
configuration application to Linux.

DUTCH FIRM SHIPS LINUX-BASED RACK-MOUNT ADK
Netherlands-based systems integrator Deciso is shipping a 1U Appliance
Development Kit (ADK) for routers, firewalls, and other rack-mounted
network appliances. Based on PC Engines' ALIX single-board computer
(SBC), the 19" ADK comes preinstalled with Voyage Linux.

The second annual Bossa Conference on open source and mobile devices is
open for registration, says Brazilian Linux developers group

INDUSTRY GROUP FORMED AROUND OPEN SOURCE HA MIDDLEWARE
An open industry forum has been created to maintain and promote an open
source (LGPL v2.1) implmentation of Service Availability Forum
high-availability middleware specifications. Founded by Emerson Network
Power (ENP), Ericsson, HP, Nokia Siemens Networks, and Sun Microsystems,
the OpenSAF Foundation aims to standardize high-availability middleware
for Linux-based carrier-grade systems.
