EDUCATION WORLD PREMIERE HUMOR
POET'S CORONER

Real Things
by Forrest Stone

I like the humor of real things – calendars like
The one I'm seeing: Life and Laughter 'Midst the Cannibals (1926)
An actual book title to look at a moment when idle

Found humor like Eat Here and Get Gas
It's everywhere, pervasive as the signs that light us to our weigh-in
Whether that's to work to eat to buy to rest to stray to home
Like "slow working zone"

The unintended puns the world generates spontaneously
Perhaps inevitably maybe fractally
If everything is a possibility and infinity is infinity Then it all comes around eventually

And those of us who like that stuff
Will notice it and have a laugh

Whistle a Tune
by Forrest Stone

Whistle a tune when your pancake burns
When you find you're allergic to grandma's ferns
When your dreams get a visit from some ghoulish goon
Don't panic or pout, buddy: Whistle a tune!

Whistle a tune when your ankles swell
When your big court date didn't go so well
When the werewolf's in town and he howls at your moon
Don't freak out or fumble: Whistle a tune!

Whistle a tune when your shoes wear out
When you're filled with fear or doused with doubt
But when your teacher says, "Quiet!" don't be a loon
Keep your song to yourself, son: Don't whistle a tune!
