SAVE MONEY ON WINDSHIELD FIXES
It happens to almost everyone at some time, you're driving along minding
your own business and suddenly a vehicle near your kicks up a rock right
into your windshield. If you act quickly you may be able to save yourself
some money. As soon as you can safely pull over, do so and check for
damage. Often it may have sounded like it hit in one place, but may have
hit in another, so check the entire windshield carefully (and the car's
paint if desired). Give any darkened areas of the windshield (usually
near the edges) an extra careful look. If everything looks ok, continue
on, but check the windshield again before & after drives for the next
couple of days. Sometimes you might not see a small crack, but it
develops into a larger one with time. If you do find a chip or crack, try
to keep your vehicle parked in a garage to avoid extreme temperatures, and
don't drive it unless you have to. Avoid using the defroster blowers.
The temperature and vibration from driving can cause cracks to expand,
sometimes before your very eyes. Call your insurance company immediately,
and arrange to have it fixed ASAP. Many insurance companies will waive
deductibles for repairs or replacements of windshields. If the crack is
less than 6" long, then it can often be fixed, if longer, then the entire
windshield usually needs to be replaced. Most areas now have mobile
repair vans that can do it in while it is parked at home or work, often
the same day you call. Do NOT try to glue anything yourself, this only
makes the fix job more of a problem. Do mark the end of the crack with a
black marker, so you can see if it is growing. Don't wait, some insurance
companies will pay for a repair, but not a replacement, and cracks usually
grow. In most localities, police can issue a ticket if a crack is bigger
than a quarter. POST IT...in your glove compartment.

WHICH CANDIDATE IS YOUR CHOICE?
This is a fun one and may surprise you. At this website...
http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html
You can click on whether you do or don't support issues, and their
importance to you. You can also adjust how important each issue is to
you. Then you enter who you are currently supporting & then "Finish." It
then selects the candidate that is most in line with your picks. You can
also click on an explanation of how they figure it all out. One possible
problem I see with the site is that they get the info on the candidates
from the candidates' own site, and often it seems the candidates may SAY
they are for or against an issue, when their ACTIONS say something else.
But I think it is an interesting tool. POST IT...on your computer and
with your voter registration card.

COLD SHOULDERS
Here's a tip to save a little money on your heating this winter. Recently
I had injured my shoulder and was using a horseshoe shaped microwave
heating pad to apply heat to the area. I found it made me feel too warm
when I was wearing it and I ended up having to turn the thermostat down to
a cooler temperature. These heating pads are usually filled with beans,
rice, or some kind of grain/husk. You heat them up in the microwave for a
couple of minutes and you have a warm pad for about 30 minutes. An
electric heating pad would also work if you are sitting in one place. If
you are applying it to an injury, remember that you should have it on for
about 25 min, then off for about an hour. Constant heat is not beneficial
to healing. But if you have no injuries, then I don’t believe a warm pad
on the shoulders for longer times should be any problem. But be sure to
check with your doctor first. The amount of electricity the microwave
would use should be quite small compared with how much it costs to run a
furnace. POST IT...near your microwave and thermostat.

RECIPE: TRY SOMETHING NEW!
On January 22nd, many Jews will be celebrating Tu B'Shvat, which is also
known as a New Year for Trees. One celebration tradition has people
planting trees on this day, another encourages people to enjoy the fruits
(and nuts) of the trees, thanking God for them, and in particular to try
something new. So instead of a recipe this issue, I'm encouraging you to
just expose your family to something new. Try a fruit or vegetable you've
never tried before. If you aren't sure how to eat it, then ask the
produce manager. If you aren't into produce, then try a new kind of meat
that you haven't tried before. Make this a regular thing, don't be
stagnant, try new things, grow a little. POST IT...on your shopping list.

WANTED: CPL Cesar Laurean
Occasionally when a particularly horrific crime has been committed, we
will feature a fugitive alert, rather than our usual missing person.
There is currently a nationwide manhunt for Marine CPL Cesar Armando
Laurean who has been charged with the murder of 20-yr-old and 8 months
pregnant Marine lance CPL Maria Lauterbach, whose body (and that of her
unborn baby) were found burned in a shallow grave in Laurean's backyard.
He claimed in a note that she slit her own throat(Laurean had tried to
conceal blood in his home by cleaning and painting) and he only buried
her, but instead of talking to the police he became a fugitive. But the
coroner has said that she died by blunt force trauma to the head. Maria
was about to testify that Laurean had raped her a few months previously.
Laurean (AKA Cesar Gudino, Cesar Sanchez) is 21-yrs-old, 5'9", 160 lbs,
black short hair, brown eyes, white/Hispanic, has the tattoo of a skull on
one of his upper arms, and a tattoo of a black widow spider, including an
hourglass on the spider's abdomen, on the other upper arm, & is considered
dangerous. Laurean's truck was found late today in Morrisville, NC. The
FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for info leading to his location &
arrest. For a Wanted Poster & Photo, go to...
http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/alert/laurean_ca.htm
POST IT...in your vehicle or business, especially if you are in any of the
areas mentioned above. Although he could be anywhere by now.

FINAL WORDS
JOKE
Why is it that the amount of clothes a wife wears to bed, is somehow
directly proportional to the number of years she's been married? It
starts out with lingerie and ends up with a parka. ~~Funny Bone Comedy

"Without love, our duties are as burdensome to God as they are to us."
