Hello Cliford,
Author: Dave Isay is the
founder
of StoryCorps and its parent company, Sound
Portraits Productions. Over the
past two decades his radio documentary work has
won nearly every award in
broadcasting, including five Peabody awards.
Dave has also received a
Guggenheim Fellowship, a MacArthur Fellowship, and
a United States Artists
Fellowship. He is the author (or co-author) of
four books based on Sound
Portraits radio stories, including Our America: Life
and Death on the South
Side of Chicago and Flophouse. He
and his wife, Jennifer Gonnerman,
live in Brooklyn, New York.
Dave Isay, legendary radio producer,
selects the most remarkable
stories from an astonishing trove of memories and
arranges them thematically
into a beautiful mosaic of American life. The
themes of the interviews in
this book remind us of the shared humanity that binds
us all: Home and Family,
Work and Dedication, Journeys, History and Struggle,
and Fire and Water (which
shares stories from September 11th and Hurricane
Katrina). The voices
heard in these interviews connect readers to real
people whose lives are filled
with extraordinary and ordinary experiences and who
remind us that no matter who
we are or where we come from, we all share this
journey of life.
StoryCorps is making history and
Listening Is an Act of Love
honors the participants of this revolutionary project
and reaches out to those
who now have the opportunity to share their lives
through storytelling.
The incredibly moving personal stories in this book
reveal the real individuals
who make up the American storybook and the
preciousness of each and every one of our
lives.

Anthony Horowitz will join us for his new book:
Snakehead
Author: Anthony Horowitz is
one of the busiest writers in
England. In addition to The New York
Times Bestselling Alex
Rider books, he is also the creator of the popular
TV crime series Foyle's
War, which airs in the United States on PBS.
A near-permanent presence on The New York
Times series Bestseller List
and voted "best series" by booksellers for
Publishers Weekly's annual
Cuffie Awards, the Alex Rider series has been
garnering rave reviews and
sales of 4 million in the U.S. alone, indicating that the
spy thriller series is
the next publishing phenomenon. In 2006, the
first title in the series,
Stormbreaker, was released as a major motion
Company starring: Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Missi
Pyle, Andy Serkis, Alicia
Silverstone and Mickey Rourke, with a screenplay by
Anthony Horowitz.
The newest book in the Alex Rider adventures,
Snakehead,
will be published November 13, 2007.
In addition to the Alex Rider adventures,
Anthony Horowitz is the
author of The Diamond Brother mysteries and
of the bestselling Raven's
Gate. Anthony lives in England with his wife
and two sons.
Title: Snakehead:
Alex Rider Adventures #7, $17.99 Hardcover,
ISBN 9780399241611,
On Sale Date: November 13, 2007
What goes up must come down, and when
we last saw Alex Rider, he was as up as can being
outer space. When he
crash lands off the coast of Australia, the Australian
Secret Service recruits
him to infiltrate one of the ruthless gangs operating
across South East Asia.
Known as snakeheads, the gangs smuggle drugs,
weapons, and worst of all, people.
Alex accepts the assignment, in part for the chance to
work with his godfather
and learn more about his parents. What he
uncovers, however, is a secret
that will make this his darkest and most dangerous
mission yet and that his old
nemesis, Scorpia, is anything but out of his life.
From the slums of
Bangkok to the Australian Outback to the middle of the
Timor Sea, Snakehead is
Alex Riders most action-packed adventure
yet.

About Us...
Vivien L. Jennings is the Founder
& President of Rainy Day Books, Inc.
Since
Vivien opened the doors on November 04, 1975,
Rainy Day Books has provided the Greater Kansas
City community with a gathering place, a wellspring
for ideas and creative thought, and an ongoing voice
for
literacy and awareness. Rainy Day Books is
the major independent bookseller in Kansas City,
recognized locally and nationally profiled by The
Kansas City Star and Publishers Weekly
for its community Author
Events, which average 300 plus per year.
Rainy Day Books recommends selections to over 140
book clubs in the area. Vivien and her
romantic partner Roger Doeren support many
local charitable and
civic organizations in raising both funds and
awareness through many of the community Author
Events. Their philosophy is: "Bigger
Isn't Better. Better Is Better. We are
interested not so much in what we have done, but
more in what we still want to do. It is thrilling
to watch people leave our
Events with the knowledge that authors and their
books can expand their awareness, improve their
health, make them laugh, touch their hearts, and
encourage them to achieve a better life in a better
world. This is truly the spirit of the 'Legacy of
Literacy' that we hope to contribute to the
community."
