Welcome back to Japan, Judi!
More than 1,500 Jazzercise fans flocked to the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center in Yokohama, Japan last month to welcome Jazzercise founder Judi Sheppard Missett back to Japan for the first time in five years. She was there for the ‘Jazzercise Special Event,’ and danced up a high-energy storm of a workout to fuel the already strong enthusiasm of the Japanese Jazzercise participants. Jazzercise VP of International Sales Kenny Harvey also pumped up the crowds with a powerful Jazzercise Core Connections class. An interesting note on the Japan connection - Jazzercise got its start on U.S. military bases in Japan nearly 30 years ago. Today, there are more than 325 Jazzercise instructors in Japan teaching 1,725 classes.
Technique Tips
Oblique Stretch
The oblique stretch is maximized when your arm passes overhead in direct line with the body. Avoid bringing the arm to the front. Keep your pelvis square and avoid allowing the same side of the pelvis to rotate to the front.
Quad/Hip Flexor Stretch Seated on the Floor
In this stretch, the leg positioning is critical to avoid stressing the medial aspect of the knee joint. Be sure the movement comes from the pelvis and not the knee.

Beat the Post Holiday Blues
Source: HealthDay News
According to Baylor All Saints Medical Center experts, the holidays are filled with triggers for depression. These include family tension and eating, drinking, and spending too much. Baylor Medical Director Dr. Gary L. Malone says he sees more cases of depression in January than any other time of the year. To avoid the post-holiday letdown, Malone suggests: 1) eating a balanced diet for more energy and an improved sense of wellbeing; 2) going for a walk or engaging in some kind of physical activity to improve your mood and help you lose weight, and 3) talking about your depression with someone else to gain a sense of relief.
