 Happy New Year!

After almost two weeks of basically being lazy, watching lots of football and movies, and eating too much, it's time to get back to the grind—and, it seems, the elliptical. (Why does my wife have to make such irresistible cookies and pies?)

Not much new content this week, either. Just one new movie review—of The Wager, a New Year's Eve release starring Randy Travis as a movie star (why not a country music star, which he already is?) whose Christian faith is tested by the people around him. In real life, at least Travis is a star; his movie, alas, earns only half a star from us.

The only other new story this week is a thoughtful commentary concerning the upcoming release of Prince Caspian, the second of the Chronicles of Narnia films co-produced by Disney and Walden Media. It's not hitting theaters for almost five months, but author Devin Brown, a college prof and Lewis expert, has a wish list for director Andrew Adamson as he continues to work on Caspian. Brown thinks—and I concur—that Adamson dropped the ball on a few things with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, perhaps most notably Aslan's awe and majesty. Anyway, please check out Brown's suggestions for Adamson when it comes to the upcoming Prince Caspian.

That's about it for now. Things will get back into full swing next week with an interview with VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer and the franchise's second full-length feature film, The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything.

Till then, Happy New Year, and God's blessings upon you and yours in 2008.

See you at the movies,
Mark Moring

The Wager REVIEW
The Wager
An uninspired Christian film about Hollywood and the Sermon on the Mount gets so caught up in its sermonizing that it misses the art of good—and true-to-life—storytelling.
