Top Picks - Rear Projection TV Less Than 60-inches  from your Home Theater Guide
You are shopping for a big screen TV, but a Plasma Television is just not in your budget. Why not consider a rear projection TV? OK, so you can't hang it on the wall, and the cabinet takes up more space, but for about one-half the price of a 42-50 inch Plasma TV, you can get a rear projection TV with the same screen size, and with the same features (many with HDTV upgradability) and, in many cases, better overall picture quality. Check out some of my favorites.

1) Sony KDF-50E3000 50-Inch 3LCD Projection Television
Using 3LCD chip technology, the Sony KDF-50E3000 delivers an excellent large screen image for a reasonable price. This set features a native 1920x1080 pixel resolution with both 1080p/60 and 1080p/24 compatibility. Other features include: Integrated HDTV tuner, composite, S-video, 3 HD-component, and 2 HDMI inputs. On the audio side, the KDF-50E3000 features S-Force Front Surround, which delivers a realistic surround image using the sets built-in speaker system. In addition, there is a digital optical output for connection to an external home theater audio system. The picture is great, definitely worth a look.

2) Samsung HL-T5087S 50-inch DLP Projection TV
If you are looking for large screen TV that doesn't take up a lot of space (can even be placed on a large table), then check out the Samsung HL-S5679W, which is a DLP rear projection Television. Featuring everything you would expect in a quality integrated HDTV, such as a both an NTSC and HDTV tuners, 2 HD-Component, and 2 HDMI inputs, as well 1080p scaling for all inputs, this large screen set has a very small footprint, with a depth of only 13.4 inches. Also, the HL-T5087S weighs less than 65lbs and is less expensive than most 50-inch Plasma and LCD flat panel sets.

3) Mitsubishi WD-57734 57-inch DLP Projection Television
Mitsubishi has always been a leader in rear projection teleivisons, and the WD-57734 is no exception. Featuring a 57-inch screen, this set delivers an excellent image with its 1920x1080 (1080p) native pixel resolution and video processing enhancements for brightness and black level detail. In addition, this set sports all the inputs you need including: 3 rear mounted HDMI inputs, 2 rear mounted Component inputs, plus both additional front mounted HDMI and Component Video inputs for more convenience for temporary connections. Also, the WD-57734 is prepared for the analog-to-digital television broadcast turnover with both NTSC and ATSC/QAM tuners built-in. You will also find this set an easy fit with its slim 13.9 inch depth.
