The Week in Movies
National Treasure: Book of Secrets
CoachZ | 12/30/07 We all have things that we have inherited
from the generations before us. Ben has his personality traits and I
have my defined calves. Some of the things we inherit can be gifts,
some of them are burdens, a lot of them are a weird combination of both.
Persepolis
Darrel Manson | 12/29/07 Part history lesson, part coming of age
story, Persepolis traces the life of young Marjane from childhood,
through adolescence and into young adulthood. Although her tale is set
in a turbulent time and place, much about her experience is universal.
I Am Legend
Jacob Sahms | 12/28/07 I find myself realizing that the gospel
shines through in the darkest, most unlikely places. Jesus is more than
legend, though; he's the real deal, defying myth, providing hope and
shining light that the darkness cannot overcome.
Charlie Wilson's War
Darrel Manson | 12/27/07 At the end of Charlie Wilson's War is a
quote from Wilson: "These things really happened. We changed the world,
then we [blew] the end game." That is the film in a nutshell. But the
success of this operation really did change the world.
The Great Debaters
Darrel Manson | 12/25/07 To have an argument truly heard requires
the inclusion of passion and personal experience. The heart of the
story is that with courage and determination people can overcome the
barriers to success that racism presents.
The Bucket List
Elisabeth Leitch | 12/25/07 As Freeman's Carter says, "It's difficult
to understand the sum of a person's life." But even though The Bucket
List fails to connect as well as it could, it reminds us all that human
connection and understanding will always be worth pursuing.

New DVD, Music, and Game Articles
High School Musical 2
CoachZ | 12/24/07 | TV, On DVD At times in my life I've found myself in
Troy's shoes (not the singing and dancing part; I only do that at
home). I constantly fight double-mindedness, making promises I can't
keep. I hate that about myself, and it doesn't work and it hurts the
ones I love.
The Simpsons Movie
CoachZ | 12/24/07 | Movies, On DVD Honestly, I still don't get it. I popped
the screener for The Simpsons Movie in the old DVD player and just felt
like I wanted to get those precious minutes of my life back. Actually,
there was one scene that stuck with me and won't let go.
Jimmy Eat World: Chase This Light
Emo-punk Wisdom
Jacob Sahms | 12/28/07 | Music Jimmy Eat World rocked my world with Bleed American but Futures was sort of anti-climactic. Thankfully, the latest album, Chase This Light, is pretty entertaining, not terribly emo, and full of pulsing punk beats.
The Train at His Best
Jeff Nicholson | 12/24/07 | Music In this five-disc boxed set, we get the
very best of The Train. John Coltrane deserves his place among the most
influential and respected musicians in American history, and this
collection shows off why. Thanks to Prestige for releasing this!
The Lord of the Rings
Mark Sommer | 12/24/07 | Books There is no Christmas in Middle-earth
because the stories pre-date Christ's coming. However, there are some
events which take place which seem to foreshadow Christ. Frodo's
selflessness exemplifies the spirit of Christmas.
Assassin's Creed
Stevo | 12/27/07 | Games Assassin's Creed is set in Jerusalem, 1191
A.D. during the Third Crusade. As an elite assassin your job is to
bring down the powers without anyone knowing of your existence. Of
course, as you stick to the shadows you start to hear that things are
not what they appear.
Godzilla Unleashed
Yo | 12/24/07 | Games You'd think that large monsters destroying
buildings while fighting each other would be a no-brianer for fun.
Unfortunately, Godzilla Unleashed finds a way to take what should be
simple fun and make into a boring, tedious mess.
