BOOK EVENTS:
"Gum Thief" | Office supplies and ennui Douglas Coupland's new novel, "The Gum Thief," begins promisingly, with a first-person introduction to the gloomy, disappointed Roger, a middle-age nobody who works at Staples. Book Review "Night Train," a chance meeting and a lifelong quest This overarching novel, "Night Train to Lisbon," has been a huge international best-seller for the past five years, encompassing the lifelong meditations of one man and the ruminations of another in search of himself. A tightknit group of gal pals Author Kate Jacobs, with her debut novel "The Friday Night Knitting Club" (Berkley, 384 pp., $14), delivers a thoroughly pleasant read ... Book Review How not to read this book I almost wish I hadn't read "How to Talk About Books You Haven't Read" by Pierre Bayard, the French best-seller which numbed my brain more than it assuaged my guilt. Local offerings A selection of new titles by Washington authors, or of local interest.
