MINING PROJECT COMES UNDER SCANNER

(26 dec 2007) The Phulbari coalmine in Bangladesh is set to cause
major social and environmental upheavals in the region, displacing
between 50,000 to 200,000 residents. World heritage site, Sunderbans
mangrove forests, would also face extensive damage.

NOT ENOUGH SCHOOLS FOR DISABLED CHILDREN IN BANGLADESH

(26 dec 2007) Only a fraction of the millions of children with
disabilities in Bangladesh are able to get basic education, owing to
government’s apparent indifference in ensuring their educational
rights. However, the country's social welfare secretary says all that
may change soon.
