Merry Christmas!
A very merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate tree-day! I hope you got all the cool wine items you hoped for - wine charms, a few bottles, a new corkscrew. Don't forget to get some plastic ice cubes to toss in the freezer! They're perfect for quickly cooling down a glass of wine without diluting it. Plus they look cute :)
Now that Christmas is over, you know what's coming up, of course. Can you believe a full quarter of all Champagne sold each year is sold in this one week between Christmas and New Year's Eve? Lots of people write me during this week to ask me to recommend the "perfect Champagne" to them. I've done Champagne tastings every year with groups of my friends. The main thing I've learned is that there is NO Champagne that we all agree on! Each of us ends up with a different favorite.
Some people love sweet Champagnes. Some like musty ones. Some like them fruity, others like them bubbly. So there is no "must have" Champagne! It all depends on your own personal taste buds. Don't use global wine reviews to figure out what *you* should drink! Figure out which flavors you enjoy, and then find a Champagne that matches them. Even if some famous wine writer tells you "You must get Bottle X!" - if he loves musty drinks, and you hate musty drinks, you won't enjoy it.
Get Champagnes you like to drink! It's that simple :)
Champagne Ideas
Of course I have to point you to my favorite page, the Champagne Cocktail Recipes with over 70 recipes including photos. I have lots of fun updating this page :) I had a Champagne-plus-Midori cocktail last night before Christmas dinner. It's a cool green color and tasty.
Memorize a few Champagne Toasts so that you can say a new one each time you clink glasses over the next week!
How about a Spiced Apple Champagne Punch - perfect if you're having some friends over!
Random Thoughts
BellaOnline, another site I own, has just published the first issue of its new literary magazine! Enjoy perusing through the pages, and then submit your own works! We accept poetry, photography, artwork, fiction and non-fiction.
Have a great week, and remember that Champagnes have all sorts of flavors, just like other wines do! Choose a bubbly that matches up with your unique taste buds! Then have fun with it. How about laying out a rainbow of Champagne Cocktails all in a row on your main table!
