from the editor
S. Claire Conroy   For our last newsletter of the year, we've assembled a greatest hits collection for your perusal. This isn't a list compiled by us; it's comprised of stories our readers chose most frequently with the click of their mice. So, just in case you missed a few choice morsels with your mouse, we serve them up one last time.

And for those of you who were closed out of our sold out symposium, Reinvention 2007, we've assembled a highlights view of its hot topics. If you'd like a jump on planning for next year's conference, we're gathering in Austin, Texas, December 8 through 10, 2008.

Meanwhile, have a safe and happy holiday season from all of us at residential architect magazine.

project of the year: camouflage house, green lake, wis.
Every once in a while, an architectural perfect storm occurs. A series of favorable circumstances—a gifted architect, a beautiful site, a thoughtful client—coincide in one project, leading to a sublime synthesis of design, surroundings, and program. That's exactly what happened with this weekend home for a Milwaukee family in Green Lake, Wis.

custom home: oshry residence, bel air, calif.
What impressed the judges most about this house was the way Zoltan E. Pali, FAIA, used public and private space to break up its long bar shape.

multifamily: loft23, cambridge, mass.
Strung between two parks, the glass-and-copper Loft23 takes modern urban housing to a new level. It was the final building in a large mixed-use development, and in order to fill out the 100-foot-by-200-foot site and meet a 70-foot height datum, the architects designed four stories of apartments with 14-foot ceilings.

Azek

AZEK® TRIMBOARDS HAS THE EDGE ON DESIGN AND LONGEVITY

The sky's the limit when it comes to designing exterior trim with AZEK Trimboards. Specify the leading brand of trim for long-lasting beauty and designs that will withstand the test of time. AZEK Trimboards is more versatile than wood, both on the jobsite and in the millwork shop, where it can be easily milled, mitered, routed, turned on lathe and even heat-formed into arches and unique shapes. It does not require paint for protection, however if a paint color is desired, it has excellent paint adhesion that will last years longer than painted wood. Now, new Sherwin-Williams VinylSafe Color Technology makes it possible to paint AZEK products in a broad range of darker colors to suit any home design. With a 25-year warranty, AZEK Trimboards is the only brand of trim to hold a building code report (ESR-1074).
