"CLOUDBOOK" SUB-NOTEBOOK RUNS GOOGLE-ISH LINUX
Everex has confirmed plans to ship a UMPC (ultra-mobile PC) with a 7-inch
screen, similar to competitor Asus's EEE PC. A source close to the company
revealed that the device -- codenamed "Cloudbook" -- will ship with the Google
Apps-oriented "gOS" Linux distribution early next year.

TUX DELIVERS FRESH MILK IN GERMANY
Emlix GmbH is introducing a dual-unit, GPS- and GPRS-based logistics system for
tanker transport of liquid goods, such as milk. Its System 3003 combines two
Ethernet-linked Linux systems: the in-cabin subsystem (ICS) for driver guidance
and the metering-sampling subsystem (MSS) that monitors liquid delivery/collection.

LINUX PHONE STACK VENDOR WINS BIG IN JAPAN
Access has announced an enormous win in Japan for its Linux-based software
stack for phones and other mobile devices. The deal could see the Access Linux
Platform (ALP) serving as a common OS platform for NEC, Panasonic, and Esteemo
phones sold by NTT DoCoMo and other mobile carriers.

LINUX POWERS TINY NETWORK TIME SERVER
Veracity UK Ltd used Linux to build a tiny time server for security camera
networks, among other applications. Veracity's TimeNet sets it own clock via
GPS, and runs an open source NTP (Network Time Protocol) daemon that network
clients can query for highly accurate time settings,

LINUX TOUCHPANEL AUTOMATES HOMES, BOARDROOMS
Convergent Living used Linux to build a WiFi-capable automation controller aimed
at letting users program HVAC and multimedia equipment in homes or offices. The
handheld Companion Muse is one of several energy-efficient, Linux-based
touchscreen controllers from Convergent, whose products range from kitchen
computers to flatscreen TVs.

FIRST LINUX PHONE STANDARD SHIPS
Weeks after Google revealed aspirations of creating a defacto standard operating
system for mobile phones, via Android and the Open Handset Alliance, a lesser

DIY PICO-ITX KIT RUNS LINUX
Via has discovered a cheap source of labor to build ultra-mini PCs based on its
pico-ITX boards: its customers. Via's $300 Artigo pico-ITX kit provides
do-it-yourselfers with a Via C7 1GHz-based pico-ITX motherboard, a case, and
everything else they might need except storage, RAM, and Linux.

LINUX COMPUTING APPLIANCE IMPRESSES FORBES REVIEWER
A recent Forbes review gushed over Zonbu's Linux-based Zonbox network PC.
Joining the chorus of other positive reviews, in "Hassle-Free PC" Daniel Lyons

SECURE HYPERVISOR RUNS LINUX FROM "PADDED CELL"
Green Hills Software announced a technology it calls "the world's first secure
hypervisor." The Linux-compatible Padded Cell Secure Hypervisor runs atop Green
Hill's Integrity separation kernel and real-time operating system (RTOS), and
boasts secure virtualization capability for platforms ranging from embedded
devices to enterprise servers.

HARDWARE ASSISTED LINUX DEV TOOLS REV'D
Wind River is readying an update to its hardware-assisted, Eclipse-based
toolsuite for Linux and VxWorks. Workbench 3.0 On-Chip Debugging (OCD), due by
year's end, adds support for half a dozen new mobile applications processors,
and supports the "RTCore" real-time Linux add-on purchased from FSMLabs this summer.
