MICHELIN GUIDE GOES WINDOWS CE
Known for tires and restaurant guides, Michelin has now announced an
in-car GPS unit that runs Windows CE 5.0. The compact X-970T includes
hotel and restaurant reviews from the Michelin guide as well as maps of
the U.K, Ireland, and mainland Europe, according to the company.

SILENT MEDIA-FRIENDLY MINI-PC SHIPS WITH VISTA
Asus has announced a device it's calling a "two-liter" PC, referring to
the system's small volume. Measuring 9 x 7.25 x 2 inches, the Nova
offers integral speakers, plus 5:1 surround sound via a digital optical
output.

CHINESE SMARTPHONES RUN WINDOWS MOBILE 6
Beijing-based Santek has announced three new Windows Mobile 6 phones to
be sold in the U.S. in unlocked form by an undisclosed partner,
according to the company. The devices include the SSGN3, with built-in
GPS; the slim SSDC850; and the FM-radio equipped SSN5, according to the
company.

VIA OFFERS DIY PICO-ITX KIT
Via has discovered a cheap source of labor to build ultra-mini PCs based
on its pico-ITX boards: its customers. Via's $300 Artigo pico-ITX kit
provides a Via C7 1GHz-based pico-ITX motherboard, a case, and
everything else do-it-yourselfers might need except storage, RAM, and an
operating system.

ONLINE TOOL COMPARES WINDOWS MOBILE AND BLACKBERRY TCO
A developer of online TCO (total cost-of-ownership) calculators has
published a tool purporting to compare the cost of competing mobile
platforms. Alinean's "Windows Mobile Messaging TCO" tool, developed in
collaboration with Wipro, claims Windows Mobile solutions cost up to 28
percent less than those based on RIM BlackBerry.

"POOR MAN'S GPS" FOR WINDOWS MOBILE TRIANGULATES VIA CELL TOWERS
Mexens Technology has released a new version of its wireless positioning
software for Windows Mobile, providing "virtual GPS" to cell phones
without any GPS hardware. Navizon Lite obtains a user's position by
triangulating among cell towers, with an accuracy of approximately a
mile, according to Mexens.

ALTERNATIVE WINDOWS PHONE STACK TO SUPPORT VECTOR GRAPHICS
Intrinsyc has announced what appears to be another major design win for
its Windows CE-based phone software stack. A "leading Japan-based OEM of
consumer electronics products" will adopt the Soleus platform for a "new
generation of connected consumer electronics and wireless devices," the
company said.

MODULE BRINGS VIBRATION SENSING TO WINDOWS MOBILE PDAS
Datastick Systems has announced a module that turns Windows Mobile 5.0
based PDAs into compact, portable vibration sensors. The VSA-1225 docks
with selected HP iPAQ models to form a self-contained instrument,
according to the company.
