Time out for Japantown

Four generations of Japanese families have lived in this historic area on and around Jackson St. Japantown has survived as an ethnic neighborhood in spite of the internment of Japanese during World War II.

There are eclectic shops, restaurants, cultural arts, Taiko drummers, the Sunday Farmer's Market and the San Jose Tofu company with its fresh tofu. The Japanese Resource Center displays photos and other collections depicting life in Japantown over the last 100 years, and sidewalk plaques tell immigrants' stories.
