Jazzercise Works Up a Sweat in Malaysia
Fitness fans in Malaysia were rockin’ and rollin’ recently with a series of events that put Jazzercise in the local media spotlight. Four Sweat to Smiles Benefits held across the country kicked off the excitement and raised more than $50,000 for a variety of charitable causes. These causes include the development of facilities at four schools and help for abandoned and abused children, female victims of domestic abuse, and homeless women with HIV/AIDS. Jazzercise also had the crowds up and dancing during a dynamic demo class led by Jazzercise VP of International Operations Kenny Harvey and Malaysian instructors at the Nestle Health Carnival, which drew more than 2,000 participants.

Technique Tips
Arabesque
Whether the arabesque is done during the strength training segment or the aerobic segment, the way it’s executed is the same. Initiate the movement by squeezing your glute. When you contract your glute, your leg will lift. The glute, not the leg, should be leading the movement.
Hip Lift with a Knee Lift
The hip lift with a knee lift is executed by engaging your oblique muscles on the side that you are lifting. Think of pulling your hip bone into your rib bone by contracting the obliques. The knee lift will occur because of the lift. Avoid leading with the knee.

Stay Active This Winter
It’s cold, it’s dark, it’s foggy. The last thing you want to do is head outdoors for your daily run or bike ride. In fact, you’d probably rather dive under the covers for an extra hour of snoozing or lounge in front of the fire nursing a cup of hot cocoa. If you find yourself skipping your workout regimen, try expanding your fitness options. MORE

Did You Know?
The People Behind the Music
At Jazzercise, you get the whole gamut when it comes to music. There’s everything from rock to alternative, hip hop, country, techno, dance, R&B, and pop. The music helps keep the workout fun. It motivates us, moves us, and inspires us. And did you know…there are a handful of artists in the mix with direct ties to Jazzercise? For example: Rachel Panay, a club /dance singer, songwriter and entertainer with Act 2 Records in the Washington, D.C. area who also attends Jazzercise, sings “Back to Love” and “I Still Believe”; Joanna Cotten, a Nashville, Tennessee country singer, was pleasantly surprised to hear her song “Funkabilly” used when she went to workout at a local Jazzercise class; and last but not least, Kelly Wills, a Jazzercise instructor in Idyllwild, California and fast-budding singer was recently touted in a music review as “one of the most incredible femme vocals of the year” for her song “I Wanna Fly.” How’s that for some high flyin’ Jazzercise music trivia?
Monitor Your Workout this Winter
Looking to revamp your body and mind for the New Year? Start fresh. When planning your workouts, shoot for at least 30 minutes of cardio exercise. And remember, after 20 minutes you will start to burn more calories. The faster and stronger you push yourself, the more calories you’ll burn – up to a certain point. If you workout above your target intensity zone, you’ll be left fatigued. So what’s the solution? Know your stuff. Refer to the Perceived Exertion Chart in class. A Polar heart rate monitor is also a great tool to track your calories burned and keep you exercising in the right zone. It gives you raw numbers so you can track your progress instead of guessing if your workouts are paying off. Check with your Jazzercise instructor for more information about ordering a Polar heart rate monitor and get out of the ordinary for the New Year.
Be on Trend a la Ruche
To ruche (pronounced “roosh”) or not to ruche, that is the question. In case you’re wondering what that even means, ruching is a gathering of fabric, and it’s a key trend in fashion right now. Update your look with the KOS Ruched Bootleg Pant (item # 8802N) – a favorite of Judi’s - available in Black, Chocolate or Mercury from the Jazzertogs "edge" line. The ruching just below the knee adds a bit of fullness that creates a hip-slimming effect. Look great and be on trend. Order today at jazzercise.com or call (800) FIT-IS-IT.
