    Advertising on magazines rose by 55 per cent in Jan-Sept 2007, as compared to Jan-Sept 2006. Women and current affairs magazines had the maximum genre advertising shares, while fashion and lifestyle was the fastest growing genre in Jan-Sept 2007, as compared to last three years. Most advertising was done on monthly magazines, while an advertising ratio of 70:30 was seen among English and regional magazines.

    Anish Daryani, who was with Rediffusion DYR, Kolkata, has recently moved to O&M, Mumbai, where he will work on the tea vertical of the Unilever business. At Rediffusion he worked as a Brand Partner, and headed the Airtel account for all East circles, and won many new businesses such as Linc Pens, Haldiram Bhujiawala, Austin Powerply, healthcare brands Calcutta Medical Research Institute and BM Birla Heart Research Centre. In his previous stint with Ogilvy lasting two and a half years in the Kolkata office, he worked on Hutch, Tea Board, Apeejay Finance and the AIDS awareness campaign ‘Buladi’.

    Santanu Datta will be joining the Jharkhand Edition of The Telegraph as Resident Editor from December 1. His last assignment was with The Indian Express, Mumbai. Datta had earlier worked with The Telegraph as Assistant Editor, News Desk.

    Rana Basu Thakur, who is with Reliance Telecom (GSM), has been promoted as Deputy General Manager-Marketing, Kolkata. Basu Thakur has been with Reliance Telecom for the last six years and had started out as Product Manager. He has handled the brand right from its inception in 1996. He has earlier worked with advertising agencies like Mudra and Response. He has also worked with E-Bay and 123 India.com prior to joining Reliance Telecom.

    Wagh Bakri Tea Group has appointed Nisan Salian as Executive VP of Sales and Marketing for Mumbai operations. He will report to Director Parag Desai. Salian brings with him 20 years of experience. Prior to this, he was associated with Colgate-Palmolive for 10 years, and with Godrej for 10 years before that.
