JONATHAN DAVIES ON WALES V SOUTH AFRICA
International rugby union is back, with Wales facing newly-crowned world champions South Africa in Cardiff on Saturday.

Wales have home advantage, but they are coming off the back of a poor World Cup and have a picked a young, inexperienced side.

South Africa may be the world champions, but they arrive here out of season and shorn of some of their best players.

It's a difficult one to call.

Caretaker Wales coach Nigel Davies has tried to freshen things up a bit by picking a new-look team and basing the squad in Tenby.

It's a good call by Nigel. It can get a bit tedious being in the same place all the time and the players needed a change after their World Cup troubles.

Gavin Henson is back in the Welsh side and all eyes will be on him.

His partnership with James Hook at the Ospreys has been nothing flash so far this season, but they are slowly playing their way into form.

This is a fantastic opportunity to show what they can do on the international stage.

I'm not sure how much influence incoming coach Warren Gatland will have had over team selection, but he will definitely be keeping a very close eye on things.

Jake White, meanwhile, takes charge of his last competitive match for South Africa.

It must be difficult for him to stay motivated after last month's celebrations in Paris and there must be a case of 'after the Lord Mayor's show' about this game.

It will be interesting to see how they perform as the new world champions, without some of their top stars and with a team that simply hasn't played that much rugby in recent weeks.

Enjoy the game,

Jonathan

Jonathan Davies won 32 rugby union caps for Wales and will be part of the BBC TV team at the match on Saturday.
