Summary of recent changes to the Windows Logo Program (WLP) Storage Requirements

The SATA I/O testing certification referenced in the STORAGE-0001 requirement is being delayed. After a requirement date is determined, we will provide the industry with an appropriate amount of lead time for implementation.

Optical Drive requirements were moved from the WLP STORAGE-0001 requirement (Storage devices meet industry standards and Windows requirements) and introduced as two new requirements: STORAGE-0010 for current requirements and STORAGE-0013 for future requirements. This provides a more accessible set of requirements for Optical Drives.

The STORAGE-0005 requirement has been refined to focus on NV-Cache technology on storage devices.

STORAGE-0012, NVRAM Controller, Separated Cache Solutions meet industry and Microsoft standards, has been introduced as a future requirement that goes into effect June 2008. This requirement targets storage adapters that use NV Cache to improve system performance.

The SYSFUND-0177 requirement was changed in connection with the STORAGE-0005 requirement changes.

You may view and provide feedback on WLP requirements by using LogoPoint which is available on the Winqual Web site.

Driver Quality Rating Monitoring Required for Basic Logo'd Devices Beginning June 1, 2008

Beginning June 1, 2008, DEVFUND-0027 and SYSFUND-0040 requirements relating to monitoring of Driver Quality Rating (DQR) will be required for basic logo'd devices and PC systems. DQR is a method of measuring the driver quality after the device and system have entered the field. Drivers are rated on a 1 to 5 star scale, with 5 being the best. The DQR score is based on the driver-crash-to-installation ratio. In addition to drivers required to be in compliance, the DQR score can be used to prioritize driver maintenance work and help OEM's update preloads.

For the latest information on DEVFUND-0027 and SYSFUND-0040 requirements, refer to the LogoPoint Web site. For complete details on DQR, refer to the following article from the Winqual Help section titled "About My Driver Quality Rating."

Reminder: Boot Start Drivers Must Be Embedded-Signed for x86 and x64

As of June 1, 2007, all boot start drivers for x86 and x64 versions of Windows Vista must be embedded-signed before being submitted to the Windows Quality Online Services (Winqual) Web site. The requirement for embedded-signing for boot start is defined in the Windows Logo Program DEVFUND-0027 requirement for devices, as well as in the SYSFUND-0002 and SYSFUND-0122 requirements for Windows Vista systems, and in SYSFUND-0054 and SYSFUND-0122 requirements for Windows Server 2008 systems.

Embedded-signing must be done through self-signing by using a software publishing certificate (SPC), and must be completed before submitting your package to Winqual. For information about how to prepare embedded-signing for boot start drivers, see the "Kernel-Mode Code Signing Walkthrough" white paper at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/drvsign/kmcs_walkthrough.mspx.
