MICROSOFT OFFICIALLY RELEASES WINDOWS EMBEDDED CE 6.0 R2
Microsoft has officially launched "Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2" at the
Embedded Technology Conference 2007 in Yokohama, Japan. Microsoft's
announcements included not only a laundry list of new Windows CE
features and enhancements, but also "Spark," an initiative designed to
cut the cost of CE development for hobbyists and academics.

QUALCOMM UNVEILS 1 GHZ MOBILE PHONE PROCESSORS
Qualcomm has unveiled the first two products in its "Snapdragon" family
of chipsets aimed at next-generation mobile phones. The dual-core
QSD8250/8650 chipsets clock to 1 GHz, include a "universal modem"

MICROSOFT SPINOFF PREPS SMARTPHONE UI BETA
Microsoft Research spinoff ZenZui has announced a public beta of its new
zooming user interface for mobile phones and PDAs. Both the company and
its product have been renamed to "Zumobi," and the new UI will be
available Dec. 14 for Windows Mobile 5 and 6.

Industrial automation specialist Moxa has introduced a pair of compact
industrial automation computers that run Windows CE 5.0. The UC-712x

HTC ADDS GPS TO WINDOWS MOBILE TOUCH LINE
HTC has announced a new member of its Windows Mobile-based Touch

ADDING A NEW NIC TO A WINDOWS CE BSP
A new post on the Windows CE Base Team blog walks developers through the
process of supporting a new Ethernet chip on an x86-based platform, and
creating a relevant CE 5.0 or 6.0 image. The process requires knowledge
of the KITL (Kernel Independent Transport Layer), according to author
Travis Hobrla.

REPORTS FORECAST GPS PROLIFERATION
Low-cost GPS chipsets will increasingly be integrated into mobile
devices, according to reports just released by two major market research
firms. While apparently disagreeing on the exact numbers, both ABI
Research and In-Stat forecast extremely strong growth between now and 2011.
