'Call of Duty' enters modern era
The "Call of Duty" franchise has found major success in recreating historical World War II situations. After three games, Infinity Ward has brought the series into the modern era with "Call of Duty 4." Read our review to see why the fourth installment is possibly the best so far. 'Dementium: The Ward' (DS)
Console games have been designed to make use of the home-field advantages of having a large screen and complete control over lighting to enhance the experience for years, but when you're playing on a tiny screen on the bus, can the experience compare? The answer, as proven by FPS-with-a-dash-of-survival horror "Dementium: The Ward," is a resounding yes. Read more 'Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga' (Multiplatform) If you haven't played either "Lego Star Wars" games, this is a solid package made even better by improved graphics, new levels, and online cooperative play. If you have played either "Lego Star Wars" games, though, you'll be getting a lot of recycled content here, which makes "The Complete Saga" harder to recommend. Read more 'SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike' (PSP) If you played any of the "Full Spectrum Warrior" titles, you probably have a good idea of what to expect from the awkwardly titled "SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Tactical Strike." That is to say, this isn't a typical shooter in the vein of most "SOCOM" titles. Rather, it's a strategy game in which you stealthily maneuver a team of four Navy SEALs through sprawling, labyrinthine levels. You don't control any of the squad mates directly; rather, you issue abstract commands to shoot, throw grenades, snipe, move, and more--and the artificial intelligence handles the rest with surprising efficiency. Read more 'The Witcher' (PC) Even though "The Witcher" may scare off some people with inventive combat that replaces comfortable old rapid-fire clicking with rhythmic sword swinging, there is no need to avoid one of the deepest, most adult role-playing games to hit the PC in years. Re-aWiikeningWill Greenwald Assistant Editor It's time for a caveat-laden confession. Around the office I'm known (unfairly) as a Nintendo fanboy. I got my Wii around 10 months ago, and to date I'm still satisfied with my purchase. That said, for the last two months, the Wii has lied fallow while my Xbox 360 got the bulk of my attention. Nintendo's little white box indeed collected a thin layer of dust while I played "Bioshock," "Oblivion," and "Portal." Read more

The best portable for a younger gamer
Posted by nancy6388 I'm comfused. I am looking for a portable gaming system for my 9-year-old son. He needs help with math (addition and subtraction) and spelling but wants to play fun video games. I have looked at the Leapster L-Max and its games are educational, but I'm concerned that he may be too old for it. I can't find the age guidelines for the DS Lite, Game Boy Advanced, or PSP. Do they offer educational games? He is not experienced with video games. What system and games would you recommend? Read more Top-rated PSP games
