WINDOWS CE POWERS HANDHELD TRANSLATION DEVICE
Ectaco has introduced an electronic dictionary and translation device
based on Windows CE. The iTravl is claimed to use "the world's most
sophisticated speech recognition" to understand what a user says, then
provide spoken translation from English to any of eight different
languages.

OPTIONAL UPDATES RELEASED FOR WINDOWS XP EMBEDDED
Microsoft has released some optional updates for Windows XP Embedded.
They add a registration resource to the Windows Media Player 10
component, and a component dependency to the Group Policy core component.

WINDOWS CE-BASED GPS MAPS U.K. NATIONAL PARKS
Satmap Systems Ltd. has introduced a "sport GPS" system specifically
aimed at those who want to enjoy the U.K.'s national parks. The "Active
10" runs Windows CE and, in addition to GPS, includes a 2-axis
electronic compass.

WINDOWS CE WEB SERVER TARGETS EMBEDDED APPS
OpenNETCF Consulting has announced a small-footprint Web server that
runs on Windows CE 5.0 and 6.0. "Padarn" provides a subset of
Microsoft's ASP.NET application framework, and can be used to create
Web-based front ends for almost any embedded system.

RUGGED PDA OFFERS WAN OPTION
Psion Teklogix has introduced a rugged device that is positioned as a
PDA, though it also offers optional cellular voice and data
communications. Running either Windows CE or Windows Mobile, the Ikon
has a full VGA display and survives drops from 5 feet onto polished
concrete.

DUAL-KEYBOARD 3G HANDSET RUNS WINDOWS MOBILE 6
AT&T has introduced an interesting new 3G mobile phone running Windows
Mobile 6. Within one model, the Pantech Duo offers a choice of two
keyboards, and also a choice between dual-band domestic and quad-band
"world phone" wireless calling modes, plus several high-speed data
transfer technologies.

DATA COLLECTION HANDHELD DOES RFID, WLAN, WAN
CipherLab has introduced a Windows CE-powered data collection handheld
that includes barcode scanners and the ability to read and write RFID

Samsung has unleashed a slim smartphone based on Windows Mobile 6.0

WINDOWS MOBILE 6 SMARTPHONE HAS SLIDE-OUT KEYPAD
T-Mobile has announced a new phone that features Windows Mobile 6 and a
slide-out "QWERTY-like" keypad. The "Shadow" is a quad-band "world
phone" usable in any country where the carrier provides its GPRS service.

MICROSOFT'S ENTERTAINMENT AND DEVICES DIVISION THRIVES
Microsoft has released financial data for the first quarter of its 2008
fiscal year. While revenue for the company overall grew 27 percent
year-over-year, the Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD), which
contains the company's Mobile and Embedded Devices (MED) software
products, grew a whopping 70 percent year-over-year.
