Microsoft Results Turn Heads

Despite reliable growth, Microsoft's unsexy stock has often failed to attract jaded investors. Its spectacular first-quarter earnings have changed that

Company Snapshot: Microsoft

Inside: This Week in Technology
Hi Tech Watchers,

Microsoft is having the best week ever. First, it beats out competitors (ahem Google?) for a stake in Facebook. Then, it beats Wall Street's revenue estimates, proving to everyone that businesses are buying Vista and consumers love xBox—or at least the Halo game series. Check out Jay Greene's story Microsoft Results Turn Heads for an examination of Microsoft's performance.

Investors in computer hardware stocks are also having a sweet week. Check out the analysis from Standard and Poor's Tom Smith under Tech Investing.

So, who is having the worst week ever? Well, it's probably not one for the record books, but the guys in charge of Sony's gaming division can't exactly be smiling. The unit has been building up losses due to the expensive PlayStation 3.
